Week of 5/25 Social Studies

Offline Let’s Make a Community! (Work with a grownup, if needed.)

First, gather any materials you can use such as paper plates, old boxes, plain and/or colored paper, scissors,
tape/glue, markers/crayons, etc.  Next, decide what buildings and other things (e.g., parks, streets, stores,
houses, etc.) you want in your community.  After that, draw and cut out the buildings and other things you
want.  Find a big piece of paper or cardboard on which to set up your community.  Draw and name the streets
and roads. Set your community up and enjoy it!

Let’s Make Story Stones!

With your family, create a story of some fun time you had together.  Part of it can be true and other parts can
be made up, but try to keep it in order (e.g., First, Then, Next, After that, and Finally.) Then, gather some
small stones and some paint.  Paint a picture of each person (character) in the story on a different stone.  If
there are animals in the story, paint them, too.  Tell your family story (in order) using the stones (props) you
made.  (If you don’t have stones, you can cut out pieces of paper and draw your characters on them.)
