VICTOR ASSEMBLY CHURCH KIKUYU

SERMON. 18TH MAY 2017

ENEMIES OF MY POSSIBILITIES

A. Recap of last weeks sermon.

5 Requirements for your impossibilities to turn to possibilities.
1. Purity - You must be pure morally, in your thoughts, actions and in your
heart.

2. Favour of God - You require the favour of God which you will enjoy if you
are humble, of contrite heart, and obeys God’s word

3. Faith – You require faith

4. Holy Spirit – You require the Holy Spirit

5. Power of God must overshadow you

B. ENEMIES OF MY POSSIBILITIES
1. Spirit of unbelief and doubt is the first enemy of your possibilities

James 1 :6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts
is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to
receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Mathew 21:21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only
can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw
yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.

Mathew 13: 55-58 they asked. 55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name
Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with
us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at him.

But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his
own home.”
58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

Matthew 14:29-31New International Version (NIV)

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But
when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”
31 ImmediatelyJesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why
did you doubt?”

2. Lack of proper personal knowledge of who God is

If you do not understand who your God is, the one before whom nothing is too
hard, and nothing is impossible, then this is an enemy to your possibilities.

Daniel 3:15-25New International Version (NIV)

15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of

music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do
not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be
able to rescue you from my hand?”
16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need
to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the
God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[a] from Your Majesty’s
hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve
your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
19 ThenNebuchadnezzar was furious with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and his attitude
toward them changed. He ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual 20 and
commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and
Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 21 So these men, wearing their robes,
trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The
king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the
soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, 23 and these three men, firmly tied,
fell into the blazing furnace.
24 Then
King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers,
“Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?”
They replied, “Certainly, Your Majesty.
Daniel 11:32King James Version (KJV)
32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people

that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits

3. Living by sight and not by faith

This is an enemy of your possibilities
Hebrews 10:38English Standard Version (ESV)
38 but my righteous one shall live by faith,

and if he shrinks back,

my soul has no pleasure in him.”

The disciples lived by sight when the storm struck their boat
Luke 8:22-25King James Version (KJV)
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said

unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
23 Butas they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and
they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose,
and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 Andhe said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to
another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they
obey him.

Isaac lived by faith when famine struck the land and God told him not to move to Egypt
Genesis 26:1-13New International Version (NIV)
26 Now there was a famine in the land—besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time—
and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. 2 The LORD appeared to Isaac
and said, “Do not go down to Egypt;live in the land where I tell you to live. 3 Stay in this land
for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will
give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. 4 I will make
your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and
through your offspring[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,[b] 5 because Abraham obeyed
me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decreesand my
instructions.” 6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar.
7 When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because
he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on
account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.”
8 When Isaac had been there a long time, Abimelek king of the Philistines looked down from
a window and saw Isaac caressing his wife Rebekah. 9 So Abimelek summoned Isaac and
said, “She is really your wife! Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?”

Isaac answered him, “Because I thought I might lose my life on account of her.”
10 Then Abimelek said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the men might well have
slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.”
11 SoAbimelek gave orders to all the people: “Anyone who harms this man or his wife shall
surely be put to death.”
12 Isaac
planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because
the LORD blessed him. 13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he
became very wealthy.

4. Listening to the counsel of men and not of God

Indeed the fall of man is because Adam listened to his wife and not to God
Genesis 3:17
To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I
commanded you, 'You must not eat from it,' "Cursed is the ground because of you; through
painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.

Psalm 33:11 New American Standard Bible (NASB)

11 Thecounsel of the LORD stands forever,

The plans of His heart from generation to generation.

In 1 kings 3, 11, Solomon was led astray by his foreign wives, he disregarded Gods counsel
and he lost the Kingdom

3He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him
astray
11 So the LORD said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and
my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give
it to one of your subordinates.

In 1 Samuel 13:13, King Saul lost the kingdom because of disregarding Gods
commandments
1 Samuel 13:13-14New International Version (NIV)
13 “You have done a foolish thing,” Samuel said. “You have not kept the command

the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over
Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure;
