TNM-1

1Installation of the TNM-1 Option

The TNM-1 is an option available with the TOC-V series of TOC analyzers that
enables Total Nitrogen (TN) measurement. Use the following procedures to
properly install the TNM-1 option.

1.1 Attach to the TOC-V

1. Attach the mounting plate to the bottom of the TNM-1 using two M4 screws.

1.2 Install the Capillary Tubing Assembly

During installation of the TNM-1 unit, the CO2 absorber is removed. The detector cell
purge gas that was coming from the CO2 absorber exhaust now must come from the
carrier gas source. A Tee connection is placed between the pressure gauge and the mass
flow controller. This connection allows carrier gas to be directed to the NDIR to purge
it and keep it free of contaminants. The pressure in the line between the pressure gauge
and the mass flow controller is greater than 200MPa. To reduce this pressure a piece of
capillary tubing is placed in line from the Tee connection to the NDIR.

Procedure

1. Remove the CO2 absorber from the TOC-V main unit.

2. Connect the TNM-1 as described above.

3. Connect the purge gas line to the inlet below the long cell.

1.4 Installing the Ozone Treatment Unit

1.4 Installing the Ozone Treatment Unit

The ozone treatment unit breaks down ozone gas produced by the ozone generator.

Procedure

1. Open the hose clamp at the top of the unit and connect it to the Viton coupling

2. Open the hose clamp at the bottom of the ozone treatment unit and connect the
Viton tubing.

1.5 Connecting the Gas Tubing

Supply gas at a constant, stable pressure of 300kPa (44PSI) to the gas inlet connection
of the TNM-1.
Note: Don not allow the carrier gas supply pressure to the instrument to exceed
600kPa (87PSI).
The special accessory Air Supply Tubing Set includes nylon tubing and connectors
(two (2) half unions).

Procedure

1. Connect the half unions to the carrier gas inlet on the instrument and the
connection outlet (¼” PT) of the gas supply source.

2. Connect the nylon tubing (4mm O.D., 2.5mm I.D.) between the gas supply
source and the instrument.
Note: The nylon tubing can be connected simply by firmly inserting it into
the half union. When disconnecting the tubing, pull off the tubing
while pushing down firmly on the green-colored ring of the half union
using a screwdriver.
4. After connection, check to see that there are no gas leaks.

CAUTION

• Do not allow any acute bends in the tubing.

• When tubing and connectors are prepared by the user, be sure to use clean com-
ponents that are free of oils or other contaminants on their inner surfaces.
• Copper tubing or stainless steel tubing may also be used.

Note: Low Ozone Air Supply Pressure Safety Mechanism

To ensure safety, the TN unit is equipped with an ozone air gas pressure sensor that will
automatically cause the ozone generator to be switched off when the ozone air gas pressure
decreases below 50kPa.
If this occurs, the red lamp labeled “PRESS” at the lower right of the TNM-1front panel
will illuminate. Take the appropriate measures to correct the low pressure problem.

1.6 Connecting the Cables

There are two cables on the TNM-1 that need to be connected to the TOC-V main unit.

Procedure

1. Connect the CN-2 cable of the TNM-1 to the NDIR of the TOC-V.
