Enhancing Durability of Stone Cladding Corrosion Restoration and Repair

The stone cladding used in many structures of cities in Israel, it has been presenting
corrosion problems and failure of the cladding anchors, causing the stones to loosen and
fall, for this reason, the article highlights three projects that were subjected to repair of its
stone coatings implementing migratory corrosion inhibitors, which were applied to
mitigate the corrosion problem and minimize the need for future restoration. The first
project had problems with the detachment and falling of the stone facing tiles, so the
method used was the injection of corrosion inhibiting gel, designed to release corrosion
inhibiting vapors. The second project presented similar problems to First, but for this
occasion, two forms of migratory corrosion inhibitors were used, injecting repair mortar
and a gel, which were mixed with migratory corrosion inhibitors. Finally, the last project,
to solve the problem of detachment and fall of the stone cladding tiles, the use of steam
corrosion and migration inhibitors was implemented to mitigate corrosion in the
reinforcing bars and cladding anchors, in addition , a migratory corrosion inhibitor surface
treatment for additional protection to concrete surfaces. In conlusion, these types of
reparation alternatives provide economic and effective solutions to these recurring
problems in the structures of the cities of Israel. In turn, lengthening the useful life of
these structures.
