C1: Work Plan

Examples of work plans found online - Instructables DIY Phone Pouch | We All Sew | Nutella Brownies

🔎 What?
C1: Outline a plan, which considers the use of resources and time, sufficient for peers to be able to follow to create the solution.

1. Describe all steps needed to create your product. In this step plan:
● List all tools you will need for each step.
● List all materials you will need for each step (where appropriate).
● Record the estimated time it should take to complete each step. (1 period = 40 mins of work time)
● Outline safety precautions for each step (where appropriate).
● Outline/describe what each step entails (bullet point sequence of smaller ‘sub-steps’).
● Present photographs and/or screenshots that illustrate the production process of your product (if found)
2. Summarize the materials and tools of the project in the following:
● Cutting List
● Tools List
3. Extension: Present photographs of your pattern & prototype (if complete)

Despite the fact that every student has their own project, it is likely your plan has some of the following ‘steps’:
- Create seams
- Iron fabric
- Mark out pattern A
- Cut pattern A
- Press seams on part A with iron
- Pin part A to part B
- Sew part A to part B
- Apply rivets/eyelets/snap buttons
- Sew on snap-buttons/velcro/zipper

How to make a ...

Overview of Project (a brief description of what are you going to make)
I will be creating a zipper pouch out of my old cotton T-shirt. I will add some special designs on my zipper pouch such
as buttons, embroidery…. I will also add some special features like an extra pocket to suit my needs.

# Step title Materials and tools Time Step details (what are you doing?)
needed
(1 pd =
40mins)

EX Prepare fabric - Fabric scissors 20m ● Cut the legs of the jeans just below the pockets. Open
. - Denim jeans the legs by cutting along the thick seam (inside leg).
● Be careful with the rotary cutter so that your cuts are
precise.

1 Prepare Fabric -Fabric Scissor 30m -Heat up the iron and prepare the ironing board for later use.( Be
-Cotton Shirt cautious of the Iron, it could burn you, and always turn it off if you
-Ruler are not using it)
-Cut out two rectangles of 9.5 x 5.5 out of your outer facing fabric
and 2 out of the interfacing with a ¼” seam allowance (you will
have 4 pieces: two of the outer facing fabric and two of the
interfacing fabric)
-cut out two 9.5”x 5.5” rectangles from the lining fabric with a ¼”
seam allowance using fabric scissors (prepare for later)
-Match up one outer fabric rectangle with your interfacing and lay
on top of each other. Use the iron to activate the iron-on
interfacing and secure it to your fabric. Use a damp pressing cloth
to attach the interfacing. Make sure to just press the iron onto the
fabric, do not rub the iron across the fabric, it messes up the glue
on the interfacing and smears it.
-Repeat with the other outer piece.

2 Sewing the -Zipper 40m -Sew around the edges of your square leaving about a ¼” seam
Zipper -Iron allowance. (set it aside)
-Sewing Pins -pin your fabric how you want to sew the edges. The machine only
-Sewing machine pulls the bottom layer of fabric through the machine, so if your
fabric is not pinned, it can get misaligned and you will not be able
to sew accurate stitches. (Be cautious, always put your pins back
into a pin cushion after using as it might prick you or other people)
-lay one outer piece on the table with the right side of the fabric
facing up. Pin the zipper at the top making sure the back side of
the zipper is facing up.
-Starting at the butt of the zipper, sew along your pinned line to
attach one side of the zipper to one side of your outer fabric. Stop
when you get about an inch or so away from the zipper pull tab.
-Unzip the zipper about halfway so that the section of the zipper
you have left to sew is now flat against your outer fabric. Sew the
rest of the way.
-Now pin the other side of the zipper to the other outer piece the
same way you sewed the first outer piece
-Close up the zipper, your case should look like the image below.
You can iron down the seams in between steps so it is easier to
sew.

3 Sewing Inner -Sewing Pins 30m -Take the lining pieces and pin one to one of the outer pieces
Lining -Sewing machine sandwiching the zipper in between the lining and outer fabric. You
should be pinning the right side of the lining fabric so it faces the
back side of the zipper.
-Sew the three pieces together the same way you sewed over the
zipper in the last few steps.
-Do the same thing on the other side with the other lining piece.

4 Sewing the -Needle 5m -Take a button and position it on the fabric however you like
Button -Thread -Using a needle and a thread, sew the button firmly on it to avoid
-Button falling off
-Tie off the thread with a finishing knot.

5 Sewing the -Sewing pins 20m -position your case so that the right sides of the outer fabric are
zipper pouch -Sewing machine touching and the lining fabric is sandwiching the outer pieces. Pin
closed -Scissor the four pieces together along the bottom edge opposite the
zipper.
-Trim the edge you just sewed close to the seam, but without
cutting it.
-With the case still inside out, position it so the seam you just
sewed is opposite the zipper. Then unzip the zipper halfway.
-Pin the sides of the case making sure the open zipper ends
remain close together. You will be sewing over the zipper.

6 Sewing Box -Fabric Scissors 10m -Take one of your four corners and pinch it to form a triangle with
Corners -Sewing Pins the raw seam going right down the center of your triangle. Pin
-Sewing Machine each of the corners with a pin or two, making sure they are all as
even as possible.
-Sew along your pinned triangles and then snip off the ends.

-Fabric Glue with stickers or googly eyes)
-Glue those on your pouch.
