Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 1
PULLCOM BH Doo was born from the development of
the ‘PULTRUSION’ activity of Italian Company
PULLCOM Srl. started in 1974 when the first production
line and the related know-how was bought from
Goldsworthy Engineering, CA, a leading and pioneering
company in the field, and installed near Milano, one
among the very first in Europe.
For many years PULLCOM Srl maintained a full licensee
agreement, technical and marketing oriented. This fact
has permitted a continuous development of the
technology and a solid base for our specific know-how.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 2
Considering the great difference between the North
American market and the European one, the technical and
marketing co-operation with the Licenser Company was
always integrated by a continuous original Know-how
development effort. During the years we have in this way
originated a PULTRUSION Know-how able to face the
growing request and sophisticated necessity of the Market.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 3
So PULLCOM BH Doo can benefit of experience and Know-how
developed for a period of more then 30 years in the specific
production activity.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 4
PULLCOM BH Doo range of products includes, besides
the traditional Glass Fibers Reinforced Polyester Profiles,
also specific, custom tailored profiles using a wide range
of resins (Vinyl-esther, Acrylic, Bisphenolics, Epoxy,
Phenolics, Polyester-immidic ) and reinforcements ( Glass,
Carbon, Aramids ) in different forms ( continuous strand,
TNT, woven, directional assembled ).

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 5
PULLCOM BH Doo is producing with different
specific formulation in accordance with the
different Standards regarding for example fire
resistance, fumes generation, chemical and or
thermal resistance.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 6
PULLCOM BH Doo has several pultrusion lines and some
hundred of moulds ( dies ).
It can produce structural profiles of big dimensions,
provided they are inscribed into a rectangle of 100x30 cm.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 7
PULLCOM BH Doo is certified ISO 9001 Ed. 2008.

THE PULTRUSION

PULTRUSION is a continuous process for

producing composite constant section
profiles made with structural fibres suitably
oriented, bonded with a polymeric matrix.
By varying the fibres type or direction, or the
used matrix, noticeable variations can be
achieved in the chemical and or physical
properties of the product, so making it
suitable to almost any necessity and request.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 The Pultrusion 10

The PULTRUSION process starts when the
reinforcing fibres pass through an
impregnating bath where they come in
contact with the fluid resin.
Following this, the impregnated fibres are
carefully guided through appropriate stations
to the die entrance, where the polymerisation
process is activated by high temperature.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 The Pultrusion 11

It’s important to underline that the
polymerisation process is fully completed
before the exit of the die, making the
process a ‘closed-mould’ process, so
reducing any volatile emission and assuring
a very elevated grade of curing. This
permits to obtain high chemical and
physical properties and a very limited
ambient impact.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 The Pultrusion 12

The relatively low cost of the moulds able to
realize a pultruded profile, permits to size and
produce any profile suitable to match any
specific request.
It is possible optimize the weight of the
profile so reducing the costs, eventually
integrating more functions making possible a
good cost/benefit ratio.
Also complex profile sections can be
pultruded to maximize the benefits of a ‘use-
tailored’ project.
The profiles are done in continuous and in
every length compatible with transportation
( some profiles of small dimensions can be
rolled up).

THE MATERIALS

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 15
Considering what above exposed, it’s easy to
understand that the pultruded profiles behaviour is
widely affected by their composition.
Almost any design profile can be produced, also
very complex ones.

Hereunder some specific characteristics of a
‘standard formulation’ profile are reported.
Those data have to be considered as a basis
and have to valuated time to time considering
the specific formulation and use forecast
The specific Standard for pultruded profiles is
ISO EN 13706

THE STANDARDS

The main mechanical properties of the Pultruded

structural profiles are listed in the ISO EN 13706
Standard
This Standard prescribes the minimum
mechanical properties and the related Test
methods.
This Standard also lists a number of mechanical
properties that may be also object of
prescription, and the related Test methods.
For Non-Structural profiles a reference can be
made to the same Standard if applicable, or to
different application field specific Standard.

RAW MATERIALS

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 23
The matrix

Beside the reinforcement type and position, the polymeric matrix choice
is very important to permit the profile to satisfy the requested quality,
and different type of thermosetting resins can be used.
-Ortho-phtalic, for general purpose, and the Iso-phtalic, for its better
properties, are the most commonly used.
- Vinyl-ester is widely used when specific high chemical resistance and
corrosion properties are requested
A wide range of different types of thermosetting resins can also be used,
in accordance with the specific behaviour the profile must have.

Rev. 1 od 07/08/2013 Raw Materials 24

The reinforcement

The most commonly used type of reinforcement

are the glass fibres in different forms:
• Continuous Rovings are longitudinally
assembled glass strands.
• Long fibres Mat are random fibres non woven
cloth; Mats improve the interlaminar adhesion
and make the profile firm and stiff.
• Specific oriented fibres reinforcing materials are
also used to improve specific properties of
profiles, such as torsion or radial strength.
