MODIFICATION OF PUMPING UNIT BELT DRIVES TO SIX BELTS

1. SCOPE
To provide field service personnel with instructions on how to change pumping units so that they use a six
belt drive assembly.

2. PRODUCTS INVOLVED
AF902 and AF903 Pump/Motor Assemblies.

3. BACKGROUND
Problems have been found on field pumping units using belt drives with less than six belts. The upgrade
to a six belt system will alleviate those problems.

4. IDENTIFICATION
Quantity Item Description

1 AM938 Sheave, 10.9", 6-groove

1 AJ375 Sheave, 31.5", 6-groove
1 AH966 Bushing, Type J, 2.75" bore
1 AJ428 Belts, set of 2, 3-groove Powerband, 5V x 125
2 ft. 1900242-4 Tubing, Rnd, 316 SS, .75 O.D. x .620 I.D.

5. PRODUCT SUPPORT
This procedure details how to change the pump skid to operate with a six belt system. To accomplish
this, new wider six groove sheaves need to be installed. The belt guard then needs to be spaced out
further to accommodate the new sheaves. To widen the belt guard the mounting hardware needs to be
replaced or adjusted.

1) Remove belt guard by removing the nuts (1900378-08, 40-500290).

2) Loosen tension on the belts by turning nuts (34-505987) located under the motor adapter plate so
that the motor will lower downwards.

3) Remove belts from sheaves.

4) Remove the sheaves (AF978, AF977) from the bushings.

5) Remove bushing (AC763) from pump shaft and replace with new bushing (AH966).

6) Install new sheaves (AM938, AJ375).

7) Install the two belt bands (AJ428).

8) Tighten the belts against the sheaves by turning the nuts (34-505987) so that the motor will rise
upward creating tension between the two sheaves. The belts should be tensioned so that when
pressure is applied with a finger the belts do not deflect more than ½”.

9) Cut from supplied tubing, two spacers at a length of 5.13” each.

10) Remove the two spacers located on the all thread studs at the bottom of the belt guard and replace
with new 5.13” spacers. Adjust all thread as necessary to ensure full thread engagement with
exterior belt guard retainer nut.

11) Cut from supplied tubing, one spacer at a length of .25”. This spacer is to be placed on the upper
most belt guard retainer bolt (1900143-06010) between the two belt guard halves at assembly.

12) Replace the belt guard.
