STANDARD PRACTICE – CODE 3 REF. NO.3.4

TM3 RADIO CONTROL ROOM


OBJECTIVE

To get the TM3 communication and breakdown reporting, machine location and loading operations to
run efficiently through improved reporting and communication.

RULES
1. The following people must have radios.
a) Shift Supervisor
b) Engineering Foreman
c) The miner
d) The artisan
e) Roof bolt Operators
f) Drill rig Operators
g) Dump truck Operators
h) LHD Operators
2. Shift Supervisors will, based on the Team Supervisor’s report, plan areas to be loaded.
3. The controller must have a copy of this planning to see where LHD’s and Dump trucks are
planned to load.
4. Before any operations or artisans enters working place, he must report his where about to the
controller and where he is going to next. On completion at this place, he must confirm with
the controller his where about. Every time he enters and leaves a place, he must report to the
control room. It is very important that roof bolters and drill rigs do this every time that they
move.
5. All breakdowns must be reported to the control and the artisan at the garage. The controller
will take note of the breakdown to any machine and the exact location. The controller will
phone the Foreman and confirm that he is aware of the breakdown. The mechanic must
report back to the controller when he has attended to the breakdown.
6. In the control room, a plan of the mine must be put up with all the zones and the call out
procedure.
7. The controller will make the necessary call outs as laid down in the call out procedure.
8. The controller must do the necessary call outs as he is aware at all times of how many
machines are available.
9. At the end of the shift, the operators must report back to the control room by radio where
their machines are parked.
10. The controller will complete for each 8-hour shift, the location, breakdowns, reports and
messages recorded during the shift. See example of shift report.(One copy to Operations
Overseer, one copy to section Engineer and one to remain in the book.
