AC 2.1 Describe THREE stereotypes outlining positive and negative factors of each.
Stereotype 1:
If you are Asian, people will think that you are smart, intelligent and academic.
Negative factors:
Even though people will think your good at maths, you may not actually be at all. This can lead
to Asian people believing they have to live up to this stereotype.
Stereotype 2:
If you are black, and your athletic, you may find it easier to get into running teams or clubs for
example,
As the coach may believe that you are naturally great at said sport. Also, fans of a sport may
pick you/your team to win if they believe this stereotype.
Negative factors:
Similar to the Asian stereotype around maths, people who are black but aren’t athletic or good
at sports may feel pressure to become good in order to live up to expectations.
Stereotype 3:
Positive factors:
If you’re a woman that’s interested in becoming a carer or childminder, you will have a better
chance at getting employed than a man due to this stereotype.
Negative factors:
Women may feel scared or nervous to pursue more typically male jobs because they may think
they aren’t good enough.
