Appendix 1: Apparel Brands Pty Ltd

Apparel Brands, founded in 1901, is an Australian based manufacturer and distributor of
generic clothing and footwear. The company takes orders from retailers and supplies retailers
with clothing products that have been manufactured to retailers’ specifications. These clothing
products are then sold to consumers under the retailers’ various brands.
Recently, Apparel Brands has found its market share in decline due to a strong Australian
dollar and increased overseas competition. In addition, labour costs are eating into profit
margins. Trends in the Australian textile industry suggest that the company, although it is in a
strong financial position now, will struggle to make a profit within two years.
To ensure the continued existence of Apparel Brands, the company has embarked on a bold
new strategic direction:
● develop own brands and product range and sell direct to consumers

● leverage e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit

margins.

Company vision: In the next five years, Apparel Brands will establish a range of innovative
and exciting online clothing brands and help secure a future for Australian clothing
manufacturing.

Assessment Task 1
Your team has been charged with the task of identifying an e-commerce opportunity for
Apparel Brands and developing a proposal to put to the board of directors. For example, your
team could decide to propose setting up an online business in which customers design their
own custom t-shirts.
Your budget for setting up the e-commerce venture is $30,000.
For your proposed e-commerce venture, your team will need to determine:
● Value proposition: What will you offer consumers? What products? What price? What
quality? How will the products benefit your customers?
● Who your target market is: What are the characteristics of the people who will buy your
products? What do they need or desire?
● How you will gather necessary information for setting up the venture?

● Who you will consult or network with to benefit from others’ expertise?

● What steps you will need to take to set up the e-commerce venture? This will range
from website design, to ensuring a system for payment, to establishing an online
presence through web search engines, etc.
● How you will determine the benefit to Apparel Brands: What is the benefit? Reduced
costs? Increased productivity?
● How you will determine cost?

online business in which customers design their own custom t-shirts.?

Our target market will be the customers who want to wear good quality clothes by
charging some extra amount than usual. Because the price of the good quality clothes
is very high and it is only for the high income level people. The product is only for the
people who have passion and knowledge of fashion. We will provide products according
to the latest fashion and some special clothes are designed by our designers with new
vogue also. And customers can design their own clothes by using customize facility. We
will try to fulfil the entire needs customer so that they will feel happy after shopping
with us and choose to come to us again.
For setting the venture we have to do marketing and surveys so that according to that
we can customize our web portal. We have to understand the current scenario of e-
commerce and the needs of the people.

We might aim simply to match the competition, or charge a premium price for a quality
product and service. We might have to choose either to make relatively few high
margin sales, or sell more but with lower unit profits. Remember that some customers
may seek a low price to meet their budgets, while others may view a low price as an
indication of quality levels.
We will take help of consultants in e-commerce business which helps us in reducing the
cost of setting up the venture and some necessary steps to attract the customers.
Because they are expert in their respective field.

If you're tired of clothes that pill, fade, and fall apart after just one season, it's time to
start shopping smart. Shopping smart means investing in quality clothes that look good
and last longer. Here's how to spot high-quality clothing when you're shopping.
Quality means customer needs is to be satisfied. Failure to maintain an adequate
quality standard can therefore be unsuccessful. But maintaining an adequate standard
of quality also costs effort. From the first investigation to find out what the potential
customer for a new product really wants, through the processes of design, specification,
controlled manufacture and sale.
There are a number of factors on which quality fitness of garment industry is based
such as - performance, reliability, durability, visual and perceived quality of the
garment. Quality needs to be defined in terms of a particular framework of cost.
To ensure, at minimum practicable cost, that the requisite quality of product is being
achieved at every stage of manufacture from raw materials to boxed stock
Objectives
● To maximize the production of goods within the specified tolerances correctly the
first time.

● To achieve a satisfactory design of the fabric or garment in relation to the level

of choice in design, styles, colors, suitability of components and fitness of
product for the market.
Approach
● Itemize the variables that occur in fabric and garment production in order to
provide a complete specification.
● Develop a specification in a number of parts or sections to ensure that all design
and production staff has a clear idea as to what is needed.
● Establish acceptable working tolerances in relation to all values on the
specification.
● Establish fault rate recording systems.
● Improve technical understanding of the product including,
● Fabric geometry and the interrelationship of yarn count, loop length, pick count,
relaxation and fabric properties.
● Sewing problems.
● Causes and prevention of seam breakdown.
● The effects of various factors on the apparent shade of goods affecting shade
matching.
To get specific with whom your target market is, you’ll have to identify several aspects
about your ideal customer. Fashion Business Insider recommends the following
attributes:
Target market
● Demographics (age, gender, profession, income level, marital or family status)
● Psychographics (values, attitudes, belief systems, pain points aka major areas of
frustrations)
● Lifestyle (geographic location, leisure activities, travel)
● Buying habits (brand loyalty, impulse buyer or saver, price awareness, unique
features they look out for)
● Customer Needs – remember that needs are stronger than wants and a
customer is willing to hand over their money for that thing that meets their
needs.

Firstly understand the market according to the customers then design web portal
according to the research. The website should be easy to use for the customers. Use of
search engine because it helps in reducing the traffic and customer can easily search
what he/she wants. And follow up with the customers through SMS or E-mail in order
make them aware with the new offers or sales. Payment system will cash on delivery,
online payment through debit or credit card and e-wallet. Full security for the users who
are doing online payment.Once company have an IMA for your business, we need to

decide on a payment service provider (PSP), otherwise known as a payment processor

or payment gateway. Some banks will suggest a PSP when issuing the merchant
account, but if possible it pays to shop around as the charge rates differ between them:
it’s nearly always possible to find a cheaper deal.
Most PSPs will allow you the choice of using their payment pages, or self-hosting the
pages of your checkout. Self-hosting can give a more seamless checkout experience but
can lead to increased risk for security and require different levels of compliance from
the PCI.

Our website can be search through the search engines so that customer can easily find
us and start shopping with us.Consider company website as the most important part of
this project. For most of your potential customers, it will be the starting point where
they can learn more about what you have to offer, know about the work you have done
so far and contact you for further discussion.
You can hire a web design company to work on your website but if you have limited
budget, you can do it on your own without having technical skills.
A good company website should have a clear information about the products or
services and contact details. Avoid using flash and large images that might slow down
the site and affect visitor’s experience.
Next step is to ensure that the company website is discoverable on Google. You can
read this guide to search engine optimization which might sound like a too much of
work for a non-technical person. However, it’s really worth it once you grasp the basic
concepts. Objective here is to optimize pages for your company name and the names of
your products or services which visitors might enter in search engines.
It might take a while for your website to appear in search results. So, have some
patience and work on other aspects of web presence.

We will determine the cost according to the quality of the product and the services
given by us to the customers. Prices of the product will reasonable or little bit above
from the normal rates because we are providing the good quality products to the
customers.

Appendix 1: Apparel Brands Pty Ltd

Apparel Brands, founded in 1901, is an Australian-based manufacturer and distributor of generic clothing
and footwear. The company takes orders from retailers and supplies retailers with clothing products that
have been manufactured to retailers’ specifications. These clothing products are then sold to consumers
under the retailers’ various brands.
Recently, Apparel Brands has found its market share in decline due to a strong Australian dollar and
increased overseas competition. In addition, labour costs are eating into profit margins. Trends in the
Australian textile industry suggest that the company, although it is in a strong financial position now, will
struggle to make a profit within two years.
To ensure the continued existence of Apparel Brands, the company has embarked on a bold new strategic
direction:
● develop own brands and product range and sell direct to consumers

● leverage e-commerce opportunities to reduce distribution costs and increase profit margins.

Company vision: In the next five years, Apparel Brands will establish a range of innovative and exciting
online clothing brands and help secure a future for Australian clothing manufacturing.

Scenario history (completed in Assessment Task 1)

Your team was charged with the task of identifying an e-commerce opportunity for Apparel Brands and
developing a proposal to put to the board of directors.
Your budget for setting up the e-commerce venture is $30,000.
For your proposed e-commerce venture, your team has determined the following:
● Value proposition: What will you offer consumers? What products? What price? What quality?
How will the products benefit your customers?
● Who is your target market: What are the characteristics of the people who will buy your products?
What do they need or desire?
● How will you gather necessary information for setting up the venture?

● Who will you consult or network with to benefit from others’ expertise?

Task 2

Assessment task 2

You will need to meet to discuss achievement of individual goals and

provide feedback on others’ work. You will need to work through and
resolve any issues with your team in order to achieve your team goal/s.

Now after preparing the performance plan it is necessary for us to start the plan on
time so that the target which is set in the plan can be achieved on time. As in
performance plan every group member will assigned by the task so he/she have to do
in time limit which is set during preparing the performance plan. In performance plan it
is mandatory for all the group members to achieve its target so that the group will
attain its objective. If any worker will not doing work properly he/she is replaced by
other and he/she will be blacklisted for next few tasks. A copy of performance plan is
given to the every member of the group if they have any problem regarding its work.
No disputes should be there in the group members every group member will help each
other to attain the objective of the group. If every individual perform in perfect manner
then it increase the efficiency of group.

So part of performance management is setting goals with members of your team. This
may be done within the formal appraisal process, but it doesn't have to be. The
important factor is that the goals that are set are aligned with the department's
strategy, which in turn is aligned with the overall strategy of the organization.

This follows the common adage in management that says, "What is measured gets
done." If you set a goal around a certain outcome, the chances of that outcome
occurring are much higher, simply because you have committed to managing and
measuring the results.

When an employee's goal is defined in terms of an organizational key process indicator,

it ensures that what the employee is doing is well aligned with the goals of the
organization. This is the critical link between employee performance and organizational
success.

Meeting notes:-
1) Main goal of the project
2) Role of each member of the team

3) Company vision;
4) Strategic direction and;

5) Budget settled.

Answersfor task 3:

Task 3

Assessment Task 3

1. Consult with your manager (your assessor) to discuss issues and

corrective actions.

Now we have to talk with manager regarding the performance of the group. Level of
completion of work and issues in doing the task in the group. Our group is facing some
technical issues and some financial problems. We are unable to fix the issues regarding
designing of the website. The web page is crashed automatically while designing it. So
the manager should consult with an expert in web designing to solve the problem
ASAP. Otherwise it will be big problem to the customers also because they are unable
to us it properly and hard to search the product which they want. And the financial
problem regarding the setting of server room to manage the website and follows up the
customer to update them for new offers.

For purposes of this communication, we are using the term “difficult conversations” to
convey a situation where both parties in the conversation need to stay in a relationship,
the stakes are high, opinions vary, and emotions may run strong. At work, situations
may arise between you and your supervisor that call for you to initiate a difficult
conversation. Your supervisor may be many things, but it is doubtful they are a mind-
reader. So if something is not working for you at work that your supervisor can
influence, and it matters to you that it is not working, you will want to find your voice.
And our group is facing the problem regarding the skill group members because we
have only limited skill members in the group so due to it there is slow in the process of
doing task and it is not done in proper manner also. So replace some members with
other new person which will help in task.

2. Meet with your team to resolve team performance issues and to

implement corrective actions.

We have to talk with our team members and take his/her thoughts to solve the problem
ASAP. We can consult an expert so that he/she will give advice to us which will help us
in present and in future also. Problem solving sounds so simple. However, we know it
isn't as simple as it seems. Employees don't behave as we hope they would. Problem
solving conversations are the ones we all tend to — or want to — avoid. Why? Because
we fear — or are concerned about — how the employees may react. In a minute we
will find ways to overcome these challenging situations.

What you must remember is that it is important NOT to avoid these conversations as a
result of feeling uncomfortable about having them. If you were the coach of a baseball
team, you would want your players to give it their all. What they should be able to
expect of you in return, is that other players on the team are performing as they need

to. Why should the shortstop play his heart out if you let the pitcher or first baseman
not play at the same level?

Guiding questions are a significant tool when in a problem solving dialogue. Regardless
of the emotional response of the employee, we must always focus on the problem
behavior not the problem employee. It is not personal.

Meeting notes:-

1) Performance plan for each team member (outcomes, outputs and KPIs);

2) Team purpose, roles and responsibilities;

3) Policies and procedures.

Two key things to keep in mind are:

● Always treat the employee with professionalism, dignity, and respect.

● You are responsible for the performance of your entire team.

If you let the lack of performance of any one person go unaddressed because you are
uncomfortable dealing with it, you are being unfair to everyone else on the team. As a
result, you would not be fulfilling your job responsibilities as a team leader. It is your
responsibility to address any individual issues that are affecting the team's performance
or morale. While designing the website we have to keep in mind that in near future
there will increase in the number of users in online shopping. So we have to design web
page according to it and back up of the website when it shall crash or hanged due to
the many users at one time. Because this is now common problem faced by all the  e-
commerce businesses. We should have a backup for every problem which can be in
near future. We will select the new person according to our work and his/her
qualification because then we will give task in the group according to it and his/her
capability will help us in completion of task effectively and efficiently. We can solve the
financial problem by setting the limited resources in the server room so that we can
start our online business on time and when we have fund we will upgrade our server
room. But to meet the limited resources we should try to cut the cost of other activities.

3. Write a report to your manager describing the corrective action you have
taken to resolve the performance issues. Explain the rationale behind your
actions.

Manager Sir we are facing some technical issues financial problem and unskilled group
members. So our group is going to counter these problems and issues in this manner.
Firstly we are going to consult with an expert in web designing because the help and

advice of an expert will go to help us in future also. Because in near future there are so
many problems which will be faced by us due to excess users, lack of network, website
is not updated, slow loading of webpage etc. so an expert will help us in all these
issues.

Correction is a reaction to a problem or undesired situation to provide an immediate

remedy to save a situation. We need to put the "fire out" immediately to prevent
immediate damages. The correction related action gives no guarantee on fixing the
cause of the problem and hence recurrence of the problem is very likely.

Correction, which may also be referred to as "Damage Control", once performed, we

need to immediately attend to the corrective action that needs to be taken to avoid
recurrence of the problem. Identifying an effective corrective action will be possible
only if we know the right cause for the problem.

For instance, if a fire broke out due to an electric fault, we may trace the cause as the
use of inferior cables whose insulation resistance was not up to the required standard.
Then, the corrective action would be to replace all the cables with the right insulation
standard. However, the same action of determining the right insulation material in the
first place could have prevented the fire altogether. Thus, the same action, which is
termed as "Corrective action", could have become a "Preventive Action", had it been
done pro-actively at the right time, in this case while selecting the cables.

It would have been a complete preventive action if an FMEA had been done to identify
all the possible of a potential fire and taking the right precautions, be it on the design,
materials or controls. Any of these actions if done, after a fire breaks out, will only
become a corrective action, or at the best, if the lessons are carried over, a preventive
action for any future installations. For counter the financial problem we are just setting
the server room with the limited resources. We will upgrade our server room when we
have sufficient fund till then we have to fix the number of users on webpage in one
time otherwise the webpage will hanged or crashed then it will be become big problem
for us. So we will give access to limited users in one time. Third problem we are facing
is that our group has some unskilled members so due to them the process of the whole
group is slows down and it will become hard to complete the task on time. So we are
replacing the some unskilled group members with some skilled persons. So that we get
the speed in the task. And task is done in innovative manner which saves our time and
money.
