General Test 5
Task 1
Write a letter to the hotel manager about a bad experience you had while staying there. In
your letter, say
 where and when you stayed
 the problems that you experienced
 what you expect the hotel should do
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to make a complaint about unexpected services poor services that our family
is currently tolerating at your hotel. We checked in your hotel yesterday for a two-week
vacation and our room is located in level 7, West Wing, no. W7.8.
Regarding the room size, we wereStraightforwardly, I would say that we were so relatively
disappointed with the room size which was since what we were provided was completely
in contrast with opposite to the elegant and spacious one we saw on your website
advertisement. Upon When we called your sales manager to reserve the place, she firmly
confirmed that it would be a family suite with a dining room, a master room, and a children
room and well-equipped kitchen. However it turns out only a master room with an old sofa
and a single bed. We, despite our great tolerance to try sharing three people in a small
room, cannot stand the poor quality of facilities such as outdated TV, loud noisy fridge and
unstable air conditioners. It is not mentioned It is not to mention that the room does not
have the park view as being promised.
[SUGGESTION]
Regarding the room size, when we booked for the room on your website, we were informed
and even confirmed by a staff that we would be provided with a fully furbished family suite
with a king size bed, a dining room, a toilet and a small kitchen. However, much to our
dismay, what was provided was completely opposite to what was advertised. My husband
was appalled upon seeing that what was shown in the advert as a “one-of-a-kind
experience” turned out to be a nightmare: the bed was actually ‘king’ in size, but ‘jungle’ in
quality. Bed bugs are all over the place, and one leg of the bed was shaking terribly when I
and my husband sat on it.

We are staying in your hotel in such a long time for the next two weeks and we no longer
can bear the current room conditions such a problem should no longer be tolerated., we
hope I hereby request that that we will be shifted to a better room with good quality of
facilities at the earliest time possible within today. I very much appreciate your swift
response.
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Best regards,

Task 2
Some people think that spending a lot of birthdays and marriage celebrations is a
waste of money. However, others think that it is very important for young people and
the society. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
While some people habour a view arguing that it is unnecessary to spend excessive
amount of money on birthdays and marriageable events marriages, other believe that these
anniversaries and ceremonies is are extremely momentous for youngsters and our society.
Upon taking both sides of this matter into consideration, I think that how people invest in
their important individual celebrations is completely depending on their economic
circumstances.
Background:
It is not an overstatement to claim that using a large amount of money for personal events
like birthdays and weeding is greatly wasteful. Especially, especially in the occasions that
people have to sacrifice their long-term future savings for a short-term celebration. There
are more significant things that people should prioritize in their life namely their children’s
education, health care or house renovation. It is not mentioned not to mention that some
people have to borroware resort to borrowing money from their family or friends to
organize these parties and will suffer from debt later on. Turning the cheerful and
content celebrations into personal financial tragedies is not encouraged for all people
regardless of ages.
On the flip side, it is believed that birthdays and marriage parties are particularly
momentous moments of a person life with their beloved ones and friends gathering and
cheering them up. These parties, if celebrated with suitable budgets, will be unforgettable
memories and experiences. On the a societal level, no one can deny that celebrating these
events contributes to is able to make an economic boom, especially for events hosting
industry involving a variety of services regarding decoration, make-up, restaurants,
hospitality and so forth. Furthermore, some personal events of famous and rich people can
bring national benefits with hundreds of guests coming for parties. Taking the recent royal
weeding of Harry and Megan for examples, British gained huge profits from the events and
its related services.

To put it in a nutshell In conclusion, in order to answer whether personal celebrations are

wasteful or important to people and society, I think that the ways people spend money on
these events are inextricably linked to their financial conditions.
Task Response 6.0
Although all parts of the task are
addressed, yet there is one part of body 2
which is not clearly stated in the
introduction and the conclusion.

Your position is “spending money is

dependent on financial conditions”, but the
idea “it’s good for the event hosting
industry” is not a part of that.
