PROJECT TITLE Implementation of Alternative Learning System in Maharlika

Elementary School
(This program is to increase active participation and involvement
of or stakeholders in the attainment of the school’s vision and
mission.
PROPONENT
BACKGROUND Alternative Learning System (ALS) provides opportunities for out-of-
AND school youth and adult (OSYA) learners to develop basic and
RATIONALE functional literacy skills and to access equivalent pathways to
complete basic education.

With the introduction of the ALS K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum

(BEC), there is a need to harmonize the policies pertaining to ALS to
ensure strategic, efficient and effective implementation.

During the first two years, school systems in Maharlika Elementary

School have experienced a decline of ALS passers and the number of
enrolment. From 2016-2017, out of 25 students, 4 or 16 % passed the
Accreditation and Equivalency Test and looking only at 2018-2019,
the number of ALS passers increased from 16 % or 4 ALS passers to
88% or 22 ALS passers in Accreditation and Equivalency Test
conducted last February 24, 2019 at Upper Bicutan Elementary
School. Presently, the school consists of sixty-one (61) ALS Learners
with twenty-six learners (26) at the elementary level and thirty-five 35
learners at the secondary level. To address the needs of the learners
the learning facilitators are in charge of instruction.
