Dear Human Resource Director:

As a retired teacher with over 30 years experience in public education, it is my sincere

pleasure to write this letter recommending Kyra Mitchell for an elementary teaching
position. I have worked with Kyra for the past year at St. Cyril of Alexandria, a K-8
elementary school, in East Lansdowne. In my role as the volunteer Reading Specialist, I
have watched Kyra begin her first year as an elementary teacher.

St. Cyril of Alexandria is an independent mission school. Teachers begin their day
meeting their students at 7:40 and preparing them for breakfast. Teachers at St. Cyril
do not have a daily prep time; they eat breakfast and lunch with their students.
Teachers have limited resources but are expected to provide a strong academic and
classroom environment. Such a job is a daunting task for any teacher but Kyra, as a
new teacher, studiously familiarized herself with all of the curriculum and took on all of
the challenges with energy and a smile.

In the classroom Kyra is continuously resourceful, creative and solution-oriented. Kyra

teaches with a keen understanding of her students’ needs. Kyra is not satisfied with
status quo. She sought out time to DRA all of her students so she could begin guided
reading. A walkthrough of Kyra’s room would reveal small groups and cross-curricular
lessons all carefully choreographed to meet the needs of diverse learners.

Kyra is a passionate teacher, a self-starter and incredibly hard working. I can assure
you of her competence and suitability for an elementary teaching position. Please feel
free to contact me if you have any further questions

Sincerely,

Helene Duckett
Reading Specialist
