Lesson Plan in Mathematics 6

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the pupils must be able to:

A. Form ratio/proportion for groups of object/numbers.

B. Write ratio/proportion using colon or fraction form

C. Show care in counting and handling things

II. Subject Matter

A. Title: Ratio and Proportion

B. References : XL Excelling in Mathematics; B.P. Caldez and C.C.

C. Materials: Box with different objects, cartolina, chalk and board

D. Values: Carefulness

III. Procedure

1. Prayer

2. Checking of attendance

3. Preparatory Activities

a. Drill

Solve for N

1) 5 ÷ 3/5 = N

2) ¾ ÷ ½ = N

3) 1/5 ÷ 6 = N

b. Review

Give the fractional part of the shaded portion.

1) 1/3

2) 3/8

3) 2/4

c. Motivation

Look around your room. What are the things you

find inside?

4. Developmental Activities

a. Activity 1 – Class Activity

 Count the number of boys, count the number of girls.

 How do you write the comparison of the number of

boys to the number of girls using fractional forms?

 Is there another way of writing it? How?

 Let the pupils count other objects/things. Let them
give/write the ratio in 2 ways (colon and fraction
forms).

Ex. sticks and leaves

batteries and stones

bottle of MD and bottle of Nestea

 Did you count the objects/things correctly?

 What will you do if you are given objects to

use/manipulate? Then, how will you handle them?

b. Activity 2 – Problem Solving

o Renz bought 3 pieces of pencils for P10.00 at

National Book Store. Regine bought 6 pieces of
pencils for P20.00. Give the ratio of pencils to the
amount of money of each child.

Discussion:

a) What did Renz and Regine buy? How

many pencils did each of them buy?
How much did each of them pay?

b) What are being compared in the

problem? Write the ratio in 2 ways.

c) How many ratios did you write?

d) What can you say about the two

ratios? Why?

e) How can we write the two ratios to

show equality in two ways?

f) What do you call two equal ratios?

g) Provide other example.

Ex. The ratio of chairs to tables

is 8 to 2 or 4 to 1.
Let the pupils write the ratio in
2 ways. Let them identify the terms,
means and extremes.

c. Generalization

1.) What is ratio? Proportion?

Ratio – is a comparison of two quantities

Proportion – is a statement that two ratios

are equal

2.) What are 2 ways of writing ratio/proportion?

A ratio can be written in colon/fraction form.

IV. Evaluation

Write a ratio or proportion for each of the following:

Use 2 different ways in writing them.

1.

6 : 3 = 3 : 1 or 6/3 = 3/1

2. There are 5 dolls to seven girls.

5 : 7 or 5/7

3. In a camping, each boy scout was given 4 hotdogs. If there

are 5 boy scouts, 20 hotdogs were asked for them. Write the
proportion.

V. Assignment

Form ratio/proportion for the following using 2 different ways.

1.) 5 books to 10 crayons

2.) 2 to 5 is equivalent to 6 to 15

3.) One boat to 3 people
