GRAMMAR

We know that pronouns are used to avoid


repeating the noun within a sentence. Relative
pronouns are particularly helpful when one
clause is embedded in another.
In other words, a relative pronoun links two
clauses into a single complex sentence.
RELATIVE PRONOUNS

 Who is used to refer to people.


 Which refers to things.
 That can refer to people or things.
 Where explains a place.
Who

 Do you know the girl who is talking to Tom?


 The woman who bought the suit returned it
the next day.
 The girl who was dancing at the party is my
sister.
 The soldiers who fight in
that battle are very young.
Which

 The jewels which she bought are


from India.
 The company in which she works
will open a new store here.
 He can’t read which surprises me.
 The violin which he uses since he was a child
belonged to his grandfather.
That

 The man that I saw yesterday at the University


lives near my house.
 The car that caused the accident was a
Lamborghini.
 The movie that you are
watching is “The avengers”.
Where

 The city where my friends live is an old


beautiful British town.
 Mexico is the place where you can find
Mariachi.
 I don’t find a place where I can tell you the
truth.
 The Artic is where the penguins live.
