General goals:
1. To learn about Leonardo Da Vinci´s life, his artistic and scientific contributions.
2. To enhance students ability to think visually, and communicate ideas in visual ways.
3. To become familiar with the process and components of making an invention.
4. To learn about the importance of inventions.
5. To connect past and present events.

Who was Leonardo da Vinci?


• He had a keen eye and quick mind that led him to make important scientific discoveries, yet he never published his
ideas.
• He was a gentle vegetarian who loved animals and despised war, yet he worked as a military engineer to invent
advanced and deadly weapons.
• He was one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance, yet he left only a handful of completed paintings.

TASK: You will research everything related to Leonardo Da Vinci Leonardo Da Vinci´s life, his artistic and scientific
contributions, in order to answer the written part and make an invention.

PROCESS
 
Step 1: Written part- The students will work on research, virtual games, videos and links to solve the activities and
answer the questionnaires and activities.
All the written part will be done in the classroom in cooperation with the teacher and classmates, and will be
sent home on Monday, February 10th to review for the oral presentation.

Collect general biographical information about Leonardo da Vinci: when he lived (include details about what life was like
then), where he lived, how he got started in his profession, etc. Include other interesting facts you find. For example,

what job did Leonardo start when he was 15 years old, what strange eating habits did he have because of his love of
animals, why didn't Leonardo finish very many of his projects, and whatever you find that seems particularly interesting
to you.

Scientific Contributions
Research the various scientific contributions Leonardo made. For example, what types of inventions did Leonardo
conceive of hundreds of years before their time, which simple machine is used in almost every one of Leonardo's
inventions, which invention did Leonardo refuse to reveal, saying that it would be used for "evil in war", and any other
interesting information you find.
Then choose one of Leonardo's inventions and explain why you think it has had the biggest impact on modern society.
