MAYNILA (UPDATE) - Pumanaw na ang Grade 7 na estudyante sa Calamba, Laguna na binaril sa loob ng
kaniyang eskuwelahan nitong Huwebes, ayon sa pulisya.

Ayon kay Col. Eleazar Matta, provincial director ng Laguna Police, nasa loob ng classroom ang biktima
nang pumasok ang gunman at binaril ito.

Nadala pa sa HealthServ hospital ang biktima, kung saan idineklara itong brain-dead ng doktor na si
Richmonde Gole. Bandang alas-4 ng hapon binawian ng buhay ang biktima.

Kinse anyos ang biktima, at naninirahan sa Pansol, Calamba City.

Alam na ng pulisya ang pagkakakilanlan sa suspek, na tinutugis na ngayon.

Ayon sa bantay sa umaga ng paaralan na si Arman Dacuycuy, sumabay ang suspek sa mga construction
worker na pumasok sa maliit na gate.

Nangyari umano ang pamamaril alas-12:30, nang bigla na lamang binaril nang dalawang beses ang
biktima ng lalaking nasa edad 30-35 anyos.

Ayon sa ulat ng pulisya, natanggap nila ang ulat tungkol sa pamamaril ala-1:50 ng hapon.

Kilala umano ng bata ang suspek.

Ayon kay Maj. Mark Julius Rebanal, hepe ng Calamba police Women and Children Protection Desk, selos
ang isa sa mga motibong tinitingnan sa krimen.

"One of the motives that we are looking into is jealousy. There is a reported relationship. There is
security in the school, however, the suspect is also the one who fetched the victim that's why the guard
presumed that the suspect will not harm the victim," ani Rebanal sa isang panayam.

LAGUNA—Dinala na sa kanilang bahay ang mga labi ng Grade 7 student na binaril sa loob ng paaralan sa
Calamba, Laguna.

Sinariwa ng mga mahal sa buhay ang magagandang katangain ng 15 anyos na biktima habang buhos ang
pakikiramay sa pamilya sa Barangay Pansol.

Ayon sa lola ng biktima, malambing at maaalahanin ang binatilyo.

"Palagi 'yan nagtatanong, 'Lola, anong gusto mong almusal?'" aniya.

Kuwento naman ng pinsan ng biktima, pangarap ng binatilyo na maging isang pulis.

"Gusto raw kasi niyang maging bayani," aniya.

Patay na ang ama ng biktima habang nakakulong ang ina nito dahil sa droga. Nitong darating na Sabado,
bibisitahin na sana ng biktima ang kaniyang ina sa kulungan.

"Nami-miss din niya ang kaniyang ina," ayon sa lola nito.

Tinutugis na ng mga pulis ang suspek na kinilalang si Renz Ivan Valderama na nagtatrabaho bilang
security guard sa isang resort sa Laguna.

"Baka may girlfriend na itong victim. Possibly itong suspek, hindi ma-control ang emotions niya, nagselos
kaya nabaril niya itong bata," ani Police Lt. Col Jack Malinao, hepe ng Calamba police.

Nasabi rin ng isang kaibigan ng biktima na may banta na sa buhay ng binatilyo at pinigilan siyang
pumasok sa paaralan, pero nagpumulit ito.

"Kung sana hindi siya pumasok nung araw na 'yun, hindi nangyari ito," aniya.

May nakahanda namang programa ang Department of Education (DepEd) para sa mga estudyanteng
nakakita sa pangyayari.

"What we will do is really find the victim at 'yun pong mga witnesses. Kasi kailangan po namin 'yang
masuyod at mabigyan ng psychological intervention," ani Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla, tagapagsalita
ng DepEd.

Naghigpit na ng seguridad ang paaralan. Pinagbabawalan na rin ang mga magulang sa pagdadala ng mga
baon tuwing lunch time.

Nangyari ang pamamaril nitong Huwebes habang lunch break ang mga estudyante ng Castor Alviar
National High School.

Sa kuha ng CCTV ng paaralan, kita ang pagtakas ng suspek na nakasuot ng pulang sombrero at may
dalang itim na bag.
Dinala pa sa ospital ang biktima, pero binawian din ito ng buhay dahil sa tinamong tama ng bala sa ulo.—

Grade 7 student from Laguna shot inside school

MANILA, Philippines (4th UPDATE) – A 15-year-old Grade 7 student from Laguna was shot at the Castor
Alviar National High School in Barangay Masili, Calamba City, on Thursday, July 4.

Police initially said Mark Anthony Miranda had died, but later clarified that he was only pronounced
brain-dead.
According to the police report, Miranda was inside a room at the school at about 12:30 pm when he was
shot twice. The suspect then fled to an "unknown direction."

Miranda was rushed to the HealthServ Los Baños Medical Center, where he was pronounced brain-dead.

In an interview with Rappler, Calamba City Police Station chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Jacinto Malinao
said the initial investigation showed that the suspect was a security guard at the school, Renz Ivan
Balderama.

Balderama and Miranda, according to Malinao, were supposedly living together.

But Malinao said Miranda had filed a case of sexual abuse against Balderama, under Republic Act No.
7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

Miranda's mother was a drug surrenderer who was arrested again for possession of drugs. She is
detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Laguna.

The Department of Education (DepEd), which denounced the attack, said in a statement on Friday, July
5, that the victim died at "passed away at 4:00 pm" on Thursday.

“The Department assures the public of its commitment to improve school safety and security, and calls
on all stakeholders including the community, the local government, and law enforcement agencies, to
help in ensuring that schools continue to be a zone of peace and a safe and nurturing environment for
the learners,” DepEd said.
It conveyed its condolences to the victim's family, and said school officials would provide financial
assistance.

DepEd also said that the Castor Alviar National High School will tap Regional and Division Disaster Risk
Reduction and Management coordinators, guidance counselors, and nurses, together with the City
Social Welfare and Development Office, "to conduct psychological debriefing to address the traumatic
effects of the incident to learners and school personnel."

"It will also gather its School Governing Council, including its Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), to
discuss the strengthening of security inside and within the school premises," DepEd said.

The incident is the latest attack inside a school. In November last year, a Philippine Army soldier shot
dead 33-year-old teacher Melody Esbert while she was having class at the Tambubong Elementary
School in Bocaue, Bulacan on Wednesday, November 21.

In October 2018, teacher Mylene Veras-Durante was killed as she shielded two students from a knife-
wielding assailant who attacked them with a knife inside their school in Pio Duran, Albay. –

DepEd condemns killing of Grade 7 student in Laguna

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday strongly denounced the killing of a Grade 7 student at
Castor Alviar National High School in Masili, Calamba City in Laguna.

In a statement, DepEd said it is extending its condolences to the family of the victim, identified by the
police as Mark Anthony Miranda, 15, adding school officials have already reached out to the family for
the necessary financial assistance for medical and burial expenses.
The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Calamba City, in close coordination with the local Philippine
National Police (PNP), is currently investigating the incident, the department said.

The Castor Alviar National High School will also coordinate with other agencies to conduct psychological
debriefing to address the traumatic effects of the incident to learners and school personnel, and look
into strengthening security

According to the police, Miranda was shot in the head noontime of Thursday, July 4, after the suspect
climbed the school's barricade.

School officials and personnel had immediately sought the help of barangay officials and the police, and
rushed the victim to the nearest hospital.

Grade 7 student shot dead in Laguna school

A 15-year-old was shot in a classroom in Castor Alviar National High School, Barangay Masili by a
security guard named Renan Valderama, according to police reports.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 4) — A Grade 7 student was killed in a school in Calamba City,
Laguna, Thursday by a man against whom he had filed sexual abuse complaints.

The 15-year-old was shot in the room in Castor Alviar National High School in Barangay Masili by a
certain Renan Valderama, according to PLTC Jacinto Malinao Jr., Calamba City Police Chief.

Police reports said Valderama, a security guard, shot the teen victim twice. The victim was rushed to the
Health Serve Hospital, where he died later in the day.

Malinao said the Grade 7 student had previously filed four counts of sexual abuse against Valderama,
who is believed to be 30 to 35 years old.

"We'll check if this is one of the motives bakit nagawa ng suspek na si Valderama na patayin itong minor
victim," he said.

[Translation: We'll check if this is one of the motives why the suspect killed the victim who is a minor.]

The Calamba top cop said Valderama was supposedly taking care of the 15-year-old, after his mother
was detained at the local Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facilities for possession of illegal
drugs.

"Itong batang ito, ay inalagaan nitong suspek, parang sinusuportahan [This kid was under the suspect's
care, like he was providing support]," Malinao said.
Valderama is still at large and is still believed to be wielding the caliber .38 pistol he used, according to
the police chief.

Malinao added Calamba City Mayor Timmy Chipeco had already ordered the city police to conduct
security surveys in the surrounding schools.

"This is the first time at nakakalungkot nga na masabi man nating isolated case 'to, but hindi natin
pwedeng ipagwalang-bahala na kailangan talagang rebyuhin at i-improve kung ano ang dapat i-improve
para ma-ensure natin 'yung safety ng ating mga estudyante," he said.

[Translation: This is the first time and it's sad, because even if this is just an isolated case, we cannot
disregard the fact that we need to review and improve whatever needs to be improved to ensure the
safety of students.]

mga tsuper na ginagamit ang sitwasyon para makapagsamantala sa pamamagitan ng paniningil ng
sobra-sobra sa pasahe ng mga estudyante.

Pero higit sa lahat, sana ay matutukan ng mga magulang ang kanilang mga anak upang hindi bumagsak
sa kamay ng mga mapagsamantalang indibidwal.

Aminado ang Department of Education (DepEd) na kulang sila sa pondo para dagdagan ang pondo sa
mga pampublikong paaralan upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral.
Inihayag ito kahapon ng DepEd kasunod na rin ng nangyaring pamamaril ng isang security guard sa loob
ng Castor Alviar National High School sa Masili, Calamba City, Laguna kung saan napatay ang isang
binatilyong Grade 7 student.
