COMMON ERRORS
1. NOT CAREFULLY READING THE ASSIGNMENT SHEETS
The assignment sheets in this course are detailed and will always

include a rubric and list of requirements. The places students

usually miss points in this class are not reading the assignment

sheet carefully and forgetting to do some part of the assignment.

2. NOT WATCHING THE VIDEOS CAREFULLY AND

DOING THE READINGS
The videos in this course, especially, contain all the information

that you are going to need to be successful. You may think you

have written a resume and cover letter before or written a lab

report, for example, but I have very specific guidelines and

explanations in the videos that you will be expected to follow.

Don’t just guess at what I want—learn it by watching the videos

and completing the readings.

3. NOT KEEPING UP WITH HOMEWORK AND FORUMS

Even though homework and forums in this class are only 10% of your

grade, you need to do them. Their goal is to help you write your

larger papers (usually they require you to do a piece of those

papers) and students who don’t do the homework are sometimes

disappointed to discover that they received a B where they could

have received an A if they did those small assignments.

4. NOT ASKING QUESTIONS

If you have a question about my expectations, a reading, a

requirement, anything at all you need to ask. It's always a good

idea to check in with the person grading your papers. You can

either do this in the questions forum of the unit or by emailing me

directly.
