Will is used to:
 rapid decisions
 make predictions without evidence
 for promises
Be going to is used:
 Prior plans
 A prediction based on something we
can see (or hear) now
 Plans/arrangements
The present continuous is used to:
 Express arrangements made with
other people, often in the near
future
The simple present is used to:
 Talk about future events on a set
schedule.
 Examples of verbs often used in
this way: arrive, leave, end,
finish, open, close, etc.
 A: I’m really hungry
B: I’ll make some sandwiches.
 I think France will win the next World Cup.
 I’ll call you when I arrive.
 I am going to visit my aunt next Friday.
 Be careful! You are going to fall.
 Looks the clouds! It’s going to rain.
 Get back! The bomb is going to explode.
 On my next vacation, I’m going to stay in a

 We’re going to get married in September.
