HABITATS
HABITAT

The surroundings where organisms live

is called a habitat.
The organisms depend for their food,
water, air, shelter and other needs on
their habitat.
Plant Habitats
Plants live in all kinds of environment.
They are found in the following places:
In high mountains covered with
snow— Example Pine Tree
In sandy deserts.

cactus
On dry rocks

Lichens
• In water
Water Lilly
Desert

Mountains

Forest

Water
Are the
examples of
habitat.
Plant Adaptations

Are Special features

developed by a plant to live
in a particular place or habitat.
Based on their habitat, plants are
broadly classified as follows:

Aquatic plants(plants living in water)

Terrestrial plants(plants living on land)

Aquatic Plants
Plants that grow in water are called aquatic plants or
hydrophytes. There are three types of aquatic plants:

floating plants fixed plants

under water plants
FLOATING PLANTS
* Floating plants are plants that float on the
surface of water and move along with the
water current(flow of water) are called floating
plants.
* Examples: water hyacinth
ADAPTATIONS
1.Floating plants have a spongy body with hollow spaces
filled with air. This feature helps them to float easily on the
surface of water.
2.The root system of floating plants is
not fixed to the bottom of the water
body.
3 The leaves of floating plants have stomata on the
upper surface for easy exchange of gases.
