Part 1. Interview

Task A. Greetings & I ntroduction

Hi, my name is _______, and I’m your interviewer. How are you today?

For the record, can you please tell me your complete name and home address?

Task B. P roviding Job-R elated I nform ation

These days, there are many kinds of medication freely available. If you are sick, would you
take medication when you are scheduled to pilot an airplane? Why or why not?

Part 2. Role-Play

Note: The test taker’s callsign for all three sections is Hotel Lima six one five three. The interviewer
should tell the test taker his/her callsign prior to starting.

Task A. Situation 1

You are almost ready for departure and have asked the controller for pre-departure clearance.
Today, your filed altitude is flight level three three zero and your aircraft weight prevents you
from flying any higher than the filed altitude. The controller will be contacting you soon.
Respond to the message and inform the controller about the situation.

Task B. Situation 2 (P icture)

Look at the picture provided. You have 15 seconds to study the picture.

You have just touch downed on runway three six. However, the runway is slipperier than you
expected and you need to use the full runway length to decelerate due to performance. The
controller will be contacting you soon. Acknowledge the clearance you will be given and
respond accordingly.

Task C. Situation 3

You are en route to your destination currently maintaining flight level three zero zero. You wish
to change to a different altitude because you have encountered some turbulence. Make a
request to the controller to climb to your maximum altitude, flight level three four zero, then
listen carefully to the controller’s response and respond as necessary.
Part 3. Providing Information and Sharing Opinions

Task A. W ork-Related Situation

Do you normally include “good day”, “goodbye” or other similar greetings and farewells to the
controllers while communicating over the radio? Why or why not?

Task B. P resenting an I dea about a P icture

Look at the picture provided. You have 15 seconds to study the picture.

Briefly describe what you see in the picture. What do you think happened to the aircraft? How
do you think it happened? During what phase of flight are birds most commonly encountered?

Task C. Stating an Opinion

Unmanned aircraft have been developed and are being used for various applications around
the world. Do you think technological advancements will ever reach a point where unmanned
passenger aircraft become a common sight? Why or why not?
