Assignment 2- Group Activity

Q1. If the 100 kg crate starts from rest and achieves a velocity of 𝑣 = 10 m/s when
it travels distance of 20 m to the right. Determine the magnitude of force P acting on
the crate. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the crate and the ground is 𝜇𝑘 =
0.35. (hint: v2=u2+2as, Fx=max, Fy=may)

Q2. If blocks A and B of mass 20 kg and 10 kg respectively, are placed on the

inclined plane and released, determine the force developed in the link. The coefficient
of kinetic friction between the blocks and the inclined plane are 𝜇𝐴 = 0.15 and 𝜇𝐵 =
0.31. Mass of the link can be neglected. (hint: Fx=max, Fy=may).

Q3. Determine the time needed to pull the cord at B down 30 cm starting from rest
when a force of 150 N is applied to the cord. Block A weight 30 kg. Neglect the mass
of the pulleys and cords. (hint: Fy=may, Absolute dependent motion, s=ut+1/2 at2)

Q4. When the device applies the brakes of a light truck travelling at 80 km/h, it skids
10 m before stopping. How far will the truck skid if it is travelling at 130 km/h when the
brakes are applied.(hint: Work and Energy)

Q5. Blocks A has weight of 50 kg and block B has a weight of 20 kg. Determine the
speed of block A after it moves 90 cm down the plane, starting from rest. Neglect
friction and the mass of the cord and pulleys. (hint: Absolute dependent motion,
Work and Energy)

Q6. The 2.5-Mg four-wheel-drive SUV tows the 1.5-Mg trailer. The traction force
developed at the wheels is F D = 9 kN. Determine the speed of the truck in 20 s, starting
from rest. Also, determine the tension developed in the coupling between the SUY and
the trailer. Neglect the mass of the wheels. (hint: Impulse and momentum)
