SIGNIFICANT SIMILARITY (%)
In the different URKUND interfaces, percentages and colours are displayed to the reviewer,
but none of these mean, under any circumstances, that the document contains plagiarised text.
What URKUND does is to show similarities between the submitted text and the sources that
is indexed and these similarities, that may have come from quotations used perfectly
correctly, are to be judged by the reviewing teacher or examiner – who then proceeds
according to the rules and regulations that apply to your own organisation (“FAQ,” n.d.). The
LIBRARY, INFLIBNET Centre or URKUND do not recommend any percentage (%). The
criteria depend on supervisor and the policy of university. The software will report even the
cited content or quotation as plagiarised content in the similarity report.
As per NLIU norms the permissible similarity level is 30%.

1
If similarity level of the content ranges from 31-50, the candidate and the research supervisor
have to modify the content of the document and reduce the similarity level below 30%. The
modified document has to be submitted for re-evaluation for plagiarism check after a period
of 3 days. If the similarity level is above 50% the research supervisor has to give a justifiable
explanation for the same, the modified document is eligible for re-submission only after 5
days.
