Here is the NETA (International Electrical Testing Association)'s thermal severity testing criteria

that is used for Direct temperature measurements.(Indirect temperature measurements should be


done on a case-by-case basis).
Classifications:
Major Deficiency = Shut Down / Repair Immediately
Deficiency = Repair ASAP
Probable Deficiency = Repair at next Shut Down
Possible Deficiency = Repair / Monitor Condition

Of course, the thermal anomaly may have a different priority if powering hospital / medical
applications.
Neither ITC nor FLIR Systems, Inc. endorses its use, but present it as one of many severity
criteria classifications in use today.

1°C -10°C O/A POSSIBLE DEFICIENCY


1°C - 3°C O/S
11°C – 20°C O/A PROBABLE DEFICIENCY
4°C – 15°C O/S
21°C – 40°C O/A DEFICIENCY
>15°C O/S
>40°C O/A MAJOR DEFICIENCY
>15°C O/S
