Unitor Topspec Euro Fireblanket

Barwil Unitor has added to its range of equipment a Fire Blanket specifically
designed and manufactured to the new European Standard for Fire Blanket
– Topspec Euro. The all-new Topspec Euro has better drapability than ever before
with outstanding extinguishing power. Topspec Euro is fitted with flame proof
handles and uses Kevlar thread to ensure the blanket retains it's integrity, giving
the user confidence in the fiercest of fires.

When removed from the container the blanket is held in the shield position,
protecting the user from the fire. When draped over a fire the blanket starves the
fire of oxygen, leading to rapid extinction.
Unitor Topspec Fire Blankets can be used to wrap around a person whose clothes
are on fire and can also be used to wrap around a hot or burning object for
removal to a safe place.

Unitor Topspec Euro is a Fire Blanket specifically designed and manufactured to

the new European Standard for FireBlankets.
Unitor Topspec Euro has better drapability than ever before whilst the efficient
and durable Fire Blanket gives outstanding extinguishing power.
Unitor Topspec Euro is fitted with flame proof handles and uses Kevlar thread to
ensure the blanket retains it’s integrity, giving the user confidence in the fiercest
of fires. Topspec Euro is fully approved and independently tested by LPC/BRE to
BS EN 1869:1997 and BSI Kitemarked.
The Topspec range of Fire Blankets are available in a one-piece Super Slim pack,
in red colour.

Fire Hoses

Guardman Fire hose w/storz C cpl.

Description:
The Guardman fully synthetic fire hose is a result of many years of development within fire hose production. The Guardman hose
is produced in one continuous process where nitrile rubber is forced through a circular woven textile. This gives an inner/outer cover
with good adhesion between textile and rubber.
After vulcanization, the hoses undergo an obligatory pressure test and control, before they are distributed to our customers.
The Guardman quality is approved all over the world and has acquired a position as the fire hose of the future.
Guardman is a wear-and-tear resistant hose which gives a long lifetime under all uses and conditions.
The Guardman is constructed to tolerate almost all conditions; also for purposes beyond fire fighting, for example transport of liquids
in the shipping industry, offshore operations, industry and agriculture.
The Guardman is suitable for climate temperatures from -30 °C to +70 °C, intermittent use up to +100 °C.

TRELLCHEM – When a dress code is of vital importance

Description
Making mistakes is part of the human condition. People who work with aggressive and hazardous chemicals are particularly at risk
when things go wrong. Even though safety standards are high, serious incidents can and do occur. A Trellchem protective suit will
give your staff the very best protection in the worst of environments.

All Trellchem gastight chemical suits are equipped with positive pressure in the suits ensures increasing safety, which can be either
connected to a Breathing apparatus with a supplement air connection, or with an additional airline from Ships air supply.
Note: The airline must also be of chemical resistant materials.

This pressurized safety system, in which the airflow can be set at either 2 or 30 liters per minute optional 30 or 100 liters per minute
when operating together with external air supply (airline), offers protection against leaks, for example by accidental perforations, and
also provides the suit with ventilation.

All new suits as of July 2007 are equipped with the new BAYONET GLOVE RING SYSTEM with the following features;
• Quick and simple glove exchange.
• Accommodates all current glove combinations, including the possibility of combining both the 4H inner glove and a rubber cuff.
• Safe and easy to assemble.
• Positions are easy to check.
• Distinct markings, the ring system is easily maneuvered also in dark conditions.
• Easy grip
• Easy exchange of 4H inner glover (standard with VPS suit)
• Locking pin for added safety
• Two Viton O-rings and glove compression for optimal sealing effect
• Old Trellchem suits can be upgraded

The Trellchem gastight chemical suits are available in three different combinations of materials, representing three levels of
protection.

• TRELLCHEM VPS, CHLOROPRENE RUBBER

• TRELLCHEM SUPER T-ET, VITON
• TRELLCHEM LIGHT, PVC

Proper care is important in terms of both safety and economy. In order to make it as easy as possible for you to maintain the
equipment in top form, we supply the following with each suit:

– Resistance Table.
– Plastic gray storage bag, hanger and instructions for storage.
– Record card for notes about the operations in which the suit has been involved, the chemical to which it has been exposed, etc.

Medical Oxygen Systems

Description:
Unitor Medical Oxygen System meets the latest IMO IMDG/MFAG regulations for
shipboard use to supply Oxygen to two persons at the same time.
Barwil Unitor has three solutions, which meet the IMDG/FMAG amendment as
some Flag states require cylinder to be installed outside the Hospital and some
require the safety valve outlet from the regulator to be lead to open air by piping.

In the IMO Bedside solution, the oxygen cylinder is placed between two beds,
mounted against the bulkhead with the cylinder rack. The regulator with a fixed
flow of 50 liters/min, is mounted on top of the cylinder and the rail is mounted
on the bulkhead. The double oxygen outlet is fixed to the rail and the hose is
connected to the regulator. Two flow meters, with quick connections, are placed in
the double oxygen outlet, which enables the oxygen flow to be regulated between
0-12 liters/min. A humidifier is connected to each flow meter and this has a
disposable oxygen therapy mask attached to it.

IMO outside solution, the oxygen cylinder is placed in the cylinder rack and is
either mounted directly on the bulkhead or in a cabinet. The gas is piped through
to the ships Hospital and the internal equipment is as described above.

IMO Norwegian solution, the cylinder is fitted as described by IMO Bedside,

however the regulator is different to fit a pipe onto the safety valve of the
regulator, which need to be lead to open air and the internal equipment is as
described above.

Product Features:
All equipment supplied in one box ready for easy installation.
Installation instructions are included.
MOX-40 cylinder is approved worldwide due the use of PISS valve (Pin Index
Safety System).

Customer Benefits:
• The installation can be completed without any trouble during a voyage and can
easily be performed by the Crew.
• 2 separate flow meters that provides independent flows to each patient.
• Unitor deposit cylinders (MOX-2, MOX-5 and MOX-40) can be refilled/exchan-
ged. Refilling of vessel owned cylinders with medical gases is becoming com-
plex, time consuming and in some areas even impossible.
• The equipment is available in our extensive Network
• Future service is supported by our service organization including replacement of
components.

Oil spill kit

Unitor Oil Spill Kit

The Unitor Oil Spill Kit is a marine oil spill response measure designed to be deployed easily and effectively, in conjunction with each
ships response plan, as required by the IMO and OPA '90. The sorbents included in the Oil Spill Kit are produced in a variety of forms
which absorb up to 25 times their own weight. For spill control, cleaning, maintenance, marine and other applications.

clean up, an environmentally safe waterbased cleaning chemical is provided together with a range of personal safety and protection
equipment. An effective gel skin cleaner is also included.

Regulation Requirements
The requirement of OPA'90 is that tankers 400 ft or greater in length which is carrying oil in bulk shall have equipment to handle a 12
barrels (1900 litres) of deck spill. Tankers under 400 ft must be equipped to deal with 7 barrels (1100 litres), while in-land oil barges
must be able to deal with at least 1 barrel.

CO2 Fire Extinguishing Systems

CO2 as an Extinguishing Agent

Unitor Marine Systems supplies high pressure CO2-systems for the fire protection
of machinery spaces, pump rooms, cargo holds, paint stores and galley exhaust
ventilation ducts. The systems are designed according to the SOLAS requirements
and are type approved by the major classification societes. CO2 will extinguish a
fire by reducing the percentage of oxygen in the surroundings to below what is
needed to sustain combustion.

The Unitor CO2 systems are an environmentally friendly fire extinguishing

alternative as Unitor Marine Systems supplies CO2 as a bi-product from other
industrial processes. If discharged, the CO2 will not do any damage to the ship.
However, CO2 is hazardous to humans as it is an asphyxiant and therefore strict
safety routines are required.

CO2 High Pressure - System Description

The Unitor High Pressure CO2 system is a central system. Several CO2 cylinders,
located in a separate room, are connected to a common manifold before the
main valves and the distribution piping. The cylinder valves and main valves are
normally pneumatically operated by means of CO2 gas from two smaller control
cylinders. Due to safety reasons, the system is manually released from a release
cabinet located outside the protected space. When opening the release cabinet,
microswitches will ensure the activation of CO2 warning alarms and ventilation
shut off. After a defined time delay, the piping and nozzle arrangement allows the
CO2 gas to spread rapidly to the protected areas.

Development and Service

Product development is a continuously on going project for our Technical
Department. This will ensure an up-to-date system with the required approvals,
specially designed for maritime use in rough and demanding environments. Unitor
offers consultative services, engineering, layout and commissioning work on fixed
installations. In addition, we offer world wide aftersale-service on all types of
installations.

Dry Chemical Powder Systems

The Unitor Dry Chemical Powder system can be installed as a central system, a modular system or a combination «hybrid« system.
The system design and choice of materials adapted for the marine environment is the result of decades of experience in the supply of
fire fighting systems to newbuildings, incorporating the experience gained from servicing this type of system in operation. The system
is completely self-contained, and not dependent on any external power supply. All three versions comply with the "IMO Code for the
Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk" and are approved by major marine classification societies.

Modular System – low installation cost

A modular system with self-contained hose and monitor units, avoids the need for powder pipework and is offered in unit sizes from
160 kg up to 1000 kg capacity each. Modular units can also be used for extra protection of such areas as car decks, helidecks and
cargo decks on chemical tankers.

Central System – high flexibility

A central system is the most common, giving the highest flexibility in use, as for example the whole amount of powder can be
discharged from one monitor or hose station. It consists of:

• The powder central, containing 1 - 2 powder tanks, nitrogen cylinders and selector valves, located outside the cargo area, with a
capacity determined by the number of connected hose stations and monitors.
• Monitors and hose stations located on the cargo deck to protect the manifold respectively at any point in the cargo area with at
least two hoses. The monitor is operated from an adjacent release cabinet or remotely from aft of the cargo area, while the hose
stations have an integrated release cabinet.

Hybrid System combines the advantages of Central and Modular Systems

The hybrid system is a combination of a central and a modular system and forms an economic
solution for larger Gas Carriers. A hybrid system gives the flexibility of a central system but
with reduced pipework installation costs.

Dry Chemical Powder - harmless and effective

Dry Chemical Powder is effective for use on all classes of fires, by selecting the correct type of
powder. It is physiologically harmless, non-toxic to humans and harmless to the environment.
The extinguishing effect is caused by breaking the chain of combustion.

For your dry chemical powder installation:

Unitor Marine Systems offers consultative services, engineering, layout, installation and
commission work on fixed installations. In addition, we offer world-wide aftersales service on
all types of installations.

The system consists of a storage tank for foam liquid at atmospheric pressure, foam pump and proportioner located in the foam
central room. The foam concentrate is mixed with water in the proportioner and discharged through the foam generators. The
nominal working pressure is 6 bar at the foam generators. The system can use both fresh or sea water.

Foam generators are installed at the highest level in the protected space and at strategically locations above high risks areas. The
water/foam mixture is expanded with air in the generators. The air used for producing foam is drawn from the protected space, thus,
no ducting and fans for external air is required. The foam produced by the foam generators fall directly by gravity to cover the entire
protected space.

The system can be remotely operated by a control cabinet located centrally with local control cabinets for operational flexibility.
Manual operation is also possible by opening the appropriate valves and starting the water and foam pump manually.

Unitor Hifoam System can be designed for sequential release by splitting the system and spaces in several distribution lines. This
unique operation feature optimized protection of high risk areas as well as reduces water capacity required. It can also be combined
with the Unitor Local Application Fire Fighting System for providing total fire protection for engine room.

Fire Extinguishing Systems

Deep Fat Cooking extinguishing system, type E9A3 GALLEY

General
Unitor Deep Fat Cooking Equipment Fire Extinguishing
System, is approved by major Classification Societies and
European Council Directive 96/98 on Marine Equipment
(MED) for use as fixed fire-extinguishing system for galley’s
deep fat fryers onboard ships.
The system has been tested according to ISO 15371:2000,
and complies with SOLAS requirements.

System Description
This self-contained automatic fire extinguishing system
provides simple and effective protection against fire for
deep fat. It is capable of quick detection and extinguishing
spilt blazing oil fires.
The system can be designed to provide protection for one deep fat fryer (50 litres, 800mm x 400mm) and up to three deep fat fryers
(each 27 litres, 400mm x 360mm).
The system uses water with additive (foam) to extinguish fire. The AFFF foam increases the wetting power and penetration capacity
of water by reducing its water surface tension. It forms a highly mobile watertight film, which reforms immediately when the surface
is disturbed. The film is impermeable to flammable liquid vapour discharge and prevents re-ignition. CO2 gas stored in a cartridge is
used to propel the extinguishing agent. The discharge nozzles spray the extinguishing agent onto the fire, which are installed above
the fryers but below the galley hood.
Detection for automatic operation is by thermal fuses. These fuses trigger at temperature equal to 110 deg C or higher.
The system can also be activated manually.

System Layout
The system consists of one 9 litres extinguisher with AFFF additive (CE certified). It must be installed near the protected risk.
A diffusion strip is fitted with one full jet nozzle for each risk area to be protected (stainless steel nozzle bracket and nozzles).
The maximum length of pipe work between the extinguisher and the last nozzle must not be more than 9 mtr.
A fuse chain equipped with thermal fuses (1 per risk) installed in the top centre of the cooker hood triggers the system automatically.
The fuse chain is at the same height as the diffusion strip (1.15 mtr to 1.3 mtr) and is installed above each risk area.
A manual control is installed near to the extinguisher or at a visible place for the galley crew.

Safety & Security

The system is designed with detection features and automatic release. An alarm relay box can be provided for alarm and potential
free contact for shutting down galley equipment as well as providing external alarm and indication.

Fire Extinguishing Systems

Fixed Local Application Fire-Fighting System

System Description
The FIXED LOCAL APPLICATION FIRE-FIGHTING SYSTEM
remote operated, is a system using water when fighting
fires. The system is designed and installed as a local
application system to cover main and auxiliary engine top,
boiler front, incinerator and purifier.

In many cases, the local application system extinguishes

the fire and there is no need for activation of the total
flooding system.

The water is distributed to the protected installation by

nozzles placed above the protected object/area.

It is of utmost importance that the system starts

immediately after the fire has occurred in order to reduce
fire and heat damages. While local application system is
running, the protected area is evacuated and decision made
whether further steps are necessary with respect to
extinguishment with e.g. portable equipment, or if the total flooding system shall be activated.

System Layout
The system is built up by the following groups of components:

The selector valve register:

The valve register contain distribution valves corresponding to the different protected installations.
The valves are remotely operated from the main control panel centrally or from manual call points close to the protected object/area.
The valves can also be operated manually.

The distribution piping with the nozzles:

From each distribution valve, the piping leads to the nozzle spread out in a grid pattern above each protected object/area. It is a dry
pipe system, containing water solution only during operation.

The local application system is a low pressure system, using fresh water or sea water. The nozzles are equally spaced in a grid
pattern and located in such a way that the high risk objects at the protected installations are covered.

The control panel:

The system is operated from a main control panel centrally and from manual call points close to the protected object/area. Activate
the system for the respective object/area that is on fire.

System Application
The Fixed Local Application Fire-Fighting System is suitable for installation on top of
main and auxiliary engine, as well as for purifiers, and the burner of the incinerator
and boiler.

The application is to cover and protect the respective installations and surroundings
from major damages due to the extreme heat produced by the fire. It will also act
as a protection to human beings, staying close to the installation, due to the cooling
effect.

Fire Detection Systems

Fire Detection Systems

There is a risk of fire or explosion in all areas containing flammable substances in

the form of liquids, gases, dust or materials. Where these combustible materials
are mixed with air in sufficient concentration they form flammable atmospheres
and the areas containing them are designated Hazardous Areas. When a source
of ignition, such as a spark, is applied in a hazardous area, an explosion could
take place.

Electrical equipment supplied for use in Hazardous Areas must comply with
requirements to ensure that its introduction into the area does not increase the
existing risk. We have designed Intrinsically Safe (I.S.) systems and equipment
for use in Hazardous Areas which can be connected to Fire Detection Systems
installed in Safe Areas.

Fleet Agreement

Safety Service Made Simple

With increased focus on safety and a need to reduce vessel operation costs, more and more ship operators are looking for a
complete service provider who can take care of all safety-related systems and equipment on board, including administration and
follow up. Unitor´s Safety Service Fleet Agreement programs are made for customers needing a complete solution.

Unitor´s Safety Service Fleet Agreement program covers all safety related systems and equipment and these will be tailored to your
particular needs.
• Choose a number of key ports just suited for you
• Choose the almost «all inclusive» package or just operate with fixed prices for inspection and travel cost.
• Cruise ship solutions covering their special requirements
• For especially short stays in port or when loading/unloading operations prohibit service, special rental and exchange programs are
available

Barwil Unitor takes care of notification, assists with planning and does the coordination for you
Safety service work is recorded in Unitor’s service system. When an inspection is due, your local Safety service specialist will contact
you and a mutual planning process starts. This has several advantages:
• Your local Safety service specialist will act as an extension of the customers technical department, handling coordination of all
service jobs and repairs, simplifying your job
• No surprises or expensive last minute orders, because work is planned ahead
• Barwil Unitor will help to identify the most suitable port to carry out inspections before certificates expire
• The ISPS code sets restrictions on last minute service requests due to stricter port access control and has also resulted in less
time available for inspections and needed repairs. Proper service planning and coordination becomes paramount for success
making this service even more valuable
• Barwil Unitor strives to combine as many inspections as possible in one port. This reduces travel costs, minimizes disturbance to
the crew during hectic port calls and harmonizes the inspection dates
• Fixed pricing gives you full control and assist in accurate budgeting

Barwil Unitor’s teams of Safety service experts are trained and ready to handle the support role so the customer can focus on other
matters.

ISO Certified Service Network

«the first and only globally certified safety service provider»

Your safety is our concern

As the first global marine safety service provider, the Unitor safety service
organisation is certified to ISO 9001:2000 requirements. As part of our approval
programs all our service stations hold the required approvals to service you systems
and equipment onboard your ships. All our service stations are in addition Z17
approved by the major classification societies as approved service provider.

This ensures that Barwil Unitor is working to the strictest quality standards. Our
focus is 100% directed towards you and your needs. We are sure you will save in the
long run by using our quality and safety oriented service network.

Because Barwil Unitor has always strived to deliver excellent value for money,
we are seen as a responsible service company with a good understanding of our
customers´ needs.

Over the last 30 years our Safety Service business has steadily expanded and we
are increasingly seen as our customer’s consultants. The service documentation
delivered on board has formed the standard in this industry and every class surveyor,
port state officer or vetting officer knows our certificates and service reports. With
a Unitor certificate, you will not have a problem passing the increasingly more
stringent controls that can so heavily influence the operation of your ships.

In order to stay updated and be ahead in this multi brand service environment,
Barwil Unitor has established the Barwil Unitor Service Academy. All our technicians
and support personnel undergo regular training and certification to be able to meet
the latest development whether that is new technology or designs, updated service
procedures or techniques or the ever-changing development of international rules
and regulations. Strict theoretical and practical exams and evaluations ensure that
only competent and qualified personnel are working on your systems or equipment.

132
Fire and Safety Services

Barwil Unitor works according to Your needed Standards

Common for all services is Unitor’s well-documented service procedures and

reports. They have been developed over the years and are now used as «the
standard» in the marine world.

On the following two pages you will find some examples of why we take things
so seriously in order to comply with you quality and safety needs:

CO2 systems
Barwil Unitor carried out both full inspections of the entire system and
verification of the contents.

Due to the physical nature of CO2, the CO2 goes from liquid to gaseous phase
at approx 27 degrees C. That means that if cylinder temperature is higher than
that, manual weighing is required to get a proper verification of the contents.
If you use a refrigeration unit to cool down the cylinders before an inspection,
make sure that the cylinder temperature reaches below the mentioned limit.
Other service companies claiming that using a Liquid Level Indicator will work in
hot climates might approach you. But remember that the physical nature of CO2
prohibits the use of a Liquid Level Indicator if cylinder temperature is above 27
degrees. There are simply no «level» to measure.

Barwil Unitor is regarded as one of the very few companies capable of doing
a proper service on CO2 low-pressure systems. To avoid icing problems like
improper readings, blockage or restricted release possibilities, Barwil Unitor sets
the highest requirements to the CO2 gas and the refilling procedures. Therefore
Barwil Unitor always measures the dew point in the tank(s) and the gas itself
prior to filling. This to ensure trouble-free operation in the future.

Foam concentrate tests

Foam concentrate needs to be tested at regular intervals. IMO has established
a standard for testing of foam concentrate for marine use. Barwil Unitor is
following the required standard explained in IMO Circ. 853. When you need your
foam concentrate tested, make sure you get it tested to the correct standard.

Foam concentrate is a complicated and can be destroyed easily if not handled

properly. If you are in doubt, our Foam Specialists are standing by to assist you.
Simply call your regular Customer Centre and ask for the Foam Specialist.

133
Fire and Safety Services

Barwil Unitor works according to Your needed Standards

Breathing air apparatuses

BA sets are used in daily operations, but might also be used in case of
emergencies when there is no room for failure. Regulators and breathing
valves are delicate pieces of equipment. Correct positive and negative
pressure, pressure reduction and airflow are crucial for proper and
safe operation. Barwil Unitor is therefore using proper test equipment
enabling us to measure the correct values set by the manufacturers.
When you need your BA set inspected, make sure you get it inspected to
the correct standards.

Air quality check

IMO Circ. 850 recommends annual check of the air quality from the on-
board BA compressor. More and more Administrations are also adding
this requirement into their own set of rules and regulations. Barwil Unitor follows the BS EN standard 12021, measuring CO,
CO2, oil and water contents. This will ensure consistent testing wherever the test is performed. Make sure that your air quality
checks is done according to a proper standard to ensure that; the air is safe to breathe, humidity is within limits to prevent internal
cylinder and filter corrosion and regulator blockages due to icing.

Life rafts
All life raft service from Unitor is carried out in manufacturer certified service stations. When you are ordering a service or asking for
a quotation you should be aware that there are some additional tests that needs to be carried out in addition to the basic inspection.
These tests will of course make the total service more expensive. When asking for a quotation for life raft service we will seek to
make the quotation as complete and accurate as possible for you. We are not hiding anything.

How to Order

Barwil Unitor is only a phone call away. If the system or product has been inspected by us before, we have the needed data to
process your order quickly and efficient.

If this is the first time this system or product is to be inspected by Barwil Unitor, we would appreciate some basic technical information.

• Type of system
• Roughly size of system
• Manufacturer if possible
• Type of service needed i.e. full inspection or contents check only

This will enable us to plan for the job properly to make sure that the inspection can be carried out in an efficient manner.
