SERVICE INFO

1. Field Service Information System

What: In November 1991 we have introduced a Field Service Information

System.

Why: The purpose of this system is to provide detailed information on the

frequency and nature of failures that occur during the field use.
This information enables us to take corrective actions and to improve
instruments on design and manufacturing methods.

For this purpose we have designed two different forms:

• Installation report
• Malfunction report

- The installation report should be filled-out when the instrument

is installed at the customers side.
- The malfunction report should be filled-out each time when a
service is performed on the instrument.

We request you kindly but urgently to return the filled-out forms to us

on regular base (once a month) by mail or fax.

Furthermore we can only replace parts under warranty if:

• A part is within the warranty period and in original status.
• Each part which is returned to Vital Scientific must be
accompanied with a complete filled-out malfunction report.

We need your cooperation, because with this information we can take

faster corrective actions and shorten the handling time of parts to be
replaced.

Malfunction reports can be ordered free of charge at our Shipping

Department:

2. Modification U: New software V1.10 for the SELECTRA 2

199602 - SEL025.DOC Pag. 2 of 11

SERVICE INFO

What: A new software version V1.10 (floppy) for the SELECTRA 2 has been
released.
Unfortunately in the Spanish, French, German and Italian version a
bug was found in the "PROZONE CHECK" selection of the "test
programming mode". The English version works correctly.

When "PROZONE CHECK" in the English version is selected a table

is shown:

Ok:

-No
-Min. δAbs ratio
-Min. Abs ratio
-Max. δAbs ratio
-Max. Abs ratio
table 1

When "PROZONE CHECK" in the Spanish, French, German or

Italian version is selected the following table is displayed:

not Ok:
-Max. δAbs ratio
-Max. Abs ratio
-No
-Min. δAbs ratio
-Min. Abs ratio
table 2

In case you select in the Spanish, French, German or Italian language

e.g. prozone check: NO, then you will not select the same NO as in
English, on software level, but Min. Abs ratio (see table 2, thus an
incorrect result).

The following two solutions to program a test will give the correct
results namely:

1. During answering the question "prozone check" in French,

Italian, Spanish or German, you have to use the same sequence
as programmed in English. (see table 1) You can use the
"correction" table below for programming a test in not English.

199602 - SEL025.DOC Pag. 3 of 11

SERVICE INFO

If you want to select: Then select:

(in German, Spanish, French, Italian)

‰ No -------------> -Max. δAbs ratio

‰ Min. δAbs ratio -------------> -Max. Abs ratio

‰ Min. Abs ratio -------------> -No

‰ Max. δAbs ratio -------------> -Min. δAbs ratio

‰ Max. Abs ratio -------------> -Min. Abs ratio

2. Another possibility is, in case of programming a new test (F3), to

switch over to the English language. All other functions can be
continued in the desired language.

A general overview of software version up to the current one is shown

in the table below.

Each software version must match in horizontal sense with the set used in your instrument.

Major changes in software, release 09 Sept. 1995 for SELECTRA 2:

‰ No bellowspump action during overflow detection.

‰ Water drops hanging on the washarm after system reset.
Unauthorized action of the bellowspump during fill system (used
in system reset) has been solved.
‰ Foam in cuvets under washarm (this causes a MD-overflow
message)
- V1, V12 and V3 are switched off 0.25 seconds earlier in mono and dual cycle.
- Delay added in blank routine.
- Dispense Cycle time of bellowspump has been made longer.
‰ Statusmask added to save errors occurred during maintenance
performances.

199602 - SEL025.DOC Pag. 4 of 11

SERVICE INFO

‰ At start of blank, the reagent arm first goes up before it goes to

the measurement disk position.
‰ Change valves timing of dual and mono cycle.

When: All SELECTRA 2 instruments delivered since November 1995 are

equipped with this new software release from 9 Sept 1995.

This software version V1.10 will not be shipped as an update for

instruments already installed with release 31 March 1995 because we
expect a new version within a few months. When the new software is
available we will inform you by means of a service info.

3. General overview of existing service info's in 1995

What: We made a general overview of the service info's of 1995 up to the current
one.

Why: The last year several service info's have been made for the SELECTRA
1 and 2. To have a clear overview of the items mentioned in the info's
see Appendix B.

4. Needle and cuvette incompatibility setting for SELECTRA 1 & 2

What: By means of this info we are reporting the latest settings as mentioned in
Info nr 2/96.
See Appendix A.

Check: Please, check if the programmed settings are corresponding with the
settings given in the list.

5. Coolunit SELECTRA 2 equipped with level sensor.

What: The coolunit is equipped with a liquid level detection which gives an
acoustic alarm in case the cooling liquid level is to low.

Why: To protect the cooling liquid pump for running dry, because this can
damage the pump.
The level sensor.
The liquid level measuring principle is based on conductance.
Therefore the cooling liquid must be conductive otherwise the level
detection will not work and a continuous beep will be the result.
When the cooling unit is first filled with <3ml aqua stable and then ±
2,5 litre distilled water is added the conductance will be sufficient.

Installation instruction:

199602 - SEL025.DOC Pag. 5 of 11

SERVICE INFO

‰ Check if both switches "COOLING"

and "PUMP" are OFF (see figure).

‰ Connect cooling unit to the line

voltage by means of the mains
cable and to the SELECTRA by
means of the two tubings.

‰ Switch only "COOLING" ON.

‰ The instrument will start beeping and a LED on the front side will lite up
because the liquid level is to low.

‰ FIRST fill cooling unit with 3 ml aqua stable.

‰ THEN fill the coolunit with distilled water (approx. 2.5 litre) until the beeper
switches off.

Note: This order of filling will result in a better mixing of the two liquids.

‰ Switch "PUMP" ON.

‰ The coolunit is ready for use.

New: p/n description price

2206-005 Aqua stable 100ml DFL. 75.00

When: All cooling units delivered from November 1995 and later are equipped
with this level sensor.

6. Printer and barcode scanner optional for SELECTRA 2

What: The SELECTRA 2 is not standard delivered with a printer and

barcode scanner.
All hardware and software preparations are made to assure an easy
installation of the options later.

Why: The internal printer and external barcode scanner are not always
used by the customer.

Mounting instruction:
The installation of the barcode scanner is very simple and does not
need any specific instruction.

The installation of the printer is as follows:

‰ Remove the dummy printer by loosening the four cheesehead

screws. The already prepared connection will be visible.

‰ Place the new printer. The electrical connections will be made

automatically because the male connector will slide into the
female connector while installing the printer.

‰ Tighten the four cheesehead screws.

‰ Select "PRINTER" in the communications menu.

7. CE-sign mark for the SELECTRA 2

What: Since 1st January 1996 every instrument must be provided

with a CE mark.

Instruments marked with this CE-sign are within the

requirements of safety, health and customers
protection.

Every manufacturer is responsible to produce

instruments according these regulations.

CE means Conformité Européene.

The SELECTRA 2 was tested by the KEMA, a national institute of

testing, authorized to test according the international standards of
EMC, Electro Magnetic Compatibility.
The SELECTRA 2 passed all tests and the results are presented in a
report named:

"Measurements concerning Electro Magnetic Compatibility on a

blood-analyzer make Vital Scientific, type: SELECTRA 2"
(58829-KCS/CE 95-4107 27 March 1995).

What means that the SELECTRA 2 meets the following standards:

- Emission: EN 55011, EN 55014 and EN 605555-2/3

- Susceptibility: EN 50082-1

199602 - SEL025.DOC Pag. 7 of 11

SERVICE INFO

- Safety: IEC-601-1-2

According these standards the SELECTRA 2 has been developed.

Therefore the instrument does not transmit "undesired" signals which
can influence the SELECTRA 2 itself or other instruments, and is not
sensible for external signals from.

Note: Nevertheless the instrument has been developed to be "immune" for

external signals we ask you to pay attention for the use of cellular
telephones and other equipment with antennas because these signals
can have a negative influence on the functioning of the analyzer.

On request a copy of CE-certificate is available at Vital Scientific N.V.
