A BRIEF REPORT OF ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT

“A Home for the Homeless” – Towards a Century Mark!

Homes for the “poorest of the poor” are going to touch the figure of 125 by January 2019. Though the

journey has been tough and the paths not strewn with roses; it has been a unique experience nevertheless

– to share with, and care for the “wretched of the earth.” The beneficiaries were selected with a

preferential option for widows with girl children, and also in solidarity with those suffering from terminal

illness. Parentless children were also given a priority in the selection process. More than 50% of the

beneficiaries belong to the SC/ST category. Three are blind (1, total and 2, partial) and around 10 are

differently-abled. One of the beneficiaries is an HIV.

A personal monitoring from the beginning to end has been the hallmark of this project. Right

from the foundation laying to the handing over of the keys, a personal attention is given for each

home, keeping in mind the needs of the benefiters. Each home is usually sponsored by an individual.

If the sponsored fund turns out to be insufficient, the supplementary allocation is done by me to meet

the primary amenities.

A continuous follow-up is maintained to cater to the beneficiaries’ physical and social needs. The

principle, “Home is where one’s heart is.”
