PRE-FLIGHT INSPECTION

4. Magnetos: OFF with keys on dashboard
5. Master switch: ON
6. Check fuel gauges
7. Flaps 20 (When 0C°+)
8. Master switch: OFF
9. Belts and shoulder harness check
10. Fuel selector: ON
11. Fire extinguisher: CHECK
12. Night flight only: CHECK ALL LIGHTS

EXTERIOR INSPECTION

BEFORE STARTING ENGINE


1. Passenger briefing;
-Weather, Duration -Location of fire extinguisher and first aid kit
-Correct use of belts and door -Emergency procedure
-No smoking -Use of vents
2. Instrument panel check from left to right and top to bottom
3. Primer: AS REQUIRED
4. Master switch: OFF
5. Electrical systems: OFF
6. Breakers: CHECK IN
7. Carburetor: COLD
8. Friction lock: ADJUSTED
9. Trim tab: TAKEOFF POSITION
10. Throttle: OPEN 0.5 CM
11. Mixture: RICH
12. Fuel selector: ON
STARTING ENGINE

1. Check prop area is CLEAR


2. Beacon light: ON
3. Night: NAVIGATION LIGHTS ON
4. Breaks: APPLY FULL BREAKS
5. Carburetor heat: WARM WHEN TEMPERATURE BELOW 0F
6. Master switch: ON
7. Magnetos: START POSITION, WHEN ENGINE STARTS RELEASE TO BOTH
8. RPM: SUMMER 1000 RPM WINTER 800 RPM
9. Oil pressure: CHECK FOR RISE (SHUT DOWN ENGINE IF NO PRESSURE)

PRE-TAXI INSPECTION

1. Instrument panel check left to right and top to bottom


2. Primer: LOCKED
3. Low-voltage light: OFF
4. Carburetor heat: COLD
5. Magnetos: RIGHT-BOTH, LEFT BOTH
6. Position light and strobe: ON
7. Flaps: UP
8. Transponder: STANDBY
9. Radio check before leaving ramp

TAXI CHECK

1. Test breaks as soon as aircraft moves


2. Check gyroscopic instruments
3. Line up into the wind
RUN-UP
1. Check behind aircraft for persons or property
2. Oil pressure and temperature: GREEN
3. Throttle: 1700 RPM
4. Ammeter: POSITIVE
5. Suction: 4.5'' TO 5.4'' Hg
6. Mixture: LEAN UNTIL RPM DROP THEN FULL RICH

7. Magnetos: RIGHT-BOTH-LEFT-BOTH (DIFFERENTIAL RPM DROP


NOT MORE THE 150 OR 50 BETWEEN)
8. Carburetor heat : WARM RPM DROP THEN COLD POSITION
9. Throttle: IDLE
10. Carburetor heat: HOT THEN COLD
11. Throttle: 1000 RPM
12. Compass: NO LEAKS AND FUNCTIONAL
13. Fuel selector: ON
14. Instrument panel check left to right and top to bottom
15. Flaps: FULL DEFLECTION DOWN THEN AS REQUIRED
16. Trim tab: TAKEOFF POSITION
17. Controls: FREE AND CORRECT
18. Radio communications and transponder: ANNOUNCE INTENTIONS
AND SET TO “ALT” WITH CODE

IN FLIGHT CHECKS
1. Fuel: INDICATORS AND FUEL VALVE ON
2. Engine gages/suction/ammeter
3. Mixture: AS REQUIRED
4. Carburetor heat: CHECK FOR ICING AS REQUIRED
5. Primer: LOCKED
6. Master switch/magnetos/avionics: ON

BEFORE CONDUCTING MANEUVERS


IN FLIGHT CHECKS
1. Belts and harness: ADJUSTED AND LOCKED
2. Loses objects: SECURED
Check correct: ALTITUDE, TERRAIN, TRAFFIC

2. Radio: 121.5 TEST, SWITCH TO APPROPRIATE FREQUENCY
3. Non-essential electronics: OFF
4. Throttle: IDLE
5. Magnetos: OFF THEN BOTH
6. Throttle: 1000 RPM
7. Mixture: LEAN CUT OFF KEYS ON DASH
8. Beacon: OFF
9. Master switch: OFF
10. Control lock ON, pitot tube cover ON
11. Aircraft tied down (covers in winter)
