 1. System Description
The DT-100C provides an accurate measurement of active red dye concentration and ASTM color in diesel fuels
and heating oils (non-transportation middle distillates). Results are reported on-screen within seconds and can
also be simultaneously exported automatically to a computer via an RS-232 serial port. Dye content is given in
pounds per thousand barrels (ptb) as well as in parts per million (ppm, defined in terms of mass per unit volume,
or mg/L) of Solvent Red 26. Results can also be displayed as treat rates based on various popular commercial
dye products.

The DT-100C-IS provides an accurate measurement of specific dyes and markers in diesel fuels and heating oils
(non-transportation middle distillates). Results are reported on-screen within seconds and can also be
simultaneously exported automatically to a computer via an RS-232 serial port. Dye concentration is reported
units of mg/L or mg/Kg. Dyes measured are: Solvent Red 24, and Solvent Red 19, Solvent Blue 79. Markers
measured: Solvent Yellow 124, Quinizarin, and Furfural.

THE TECHNOLOGY

The DT-100C utilizes the latest visible laser and LED photometric techniques to accurately read red dye
concentration while correcting for the ASTM color of the un-dyed base fuel. Thus, accurate dye content analyses
are obtained even when the presence of dye cannot be discerned by the naked eye.

THE POWER BUTTON

The power button turns the DT-100C on and off. If the DT-100C is left on and is not used for a period of about ten
minutes, it will automatically shut itself off in order to conserve power. Pressing the power button again will
awaken the instrument.

THE MODE BUTTON

The mode button allows the user to select analysis results are displayed. In the default mode, the DT-100C
supplies results in concentrations of parts per thousand barrels and parts per million of Active Red Dye
referenced to the solid dye standard: Solvent Red 26. Pressing the mode button allows the user to translate
analysis results into treat rates based on many popular commercial dye products. The mode can be changed at
any time before or after the analysis is completed.

 THE DISPLAY

The DT-100C features a four line by twenty character LCD display. Each line on the display has a separate
function, as outlined below:

Line 3 Selected MODE Indicator
Line 4 Instruction / Prompt Line

THE SAMPLE CHAMBER

The sample chamber is located at the top right corner of the front panel. The sample chamber contains all of the
optical hardware in the DT-100C and it is here where the spectroscopic analysis takes place. It accepts
disposable PetroSpec cuvettes and is sealed against accidental spills.
