Purpose & Rationale

● The continuous growth of retail business in the Philippines shows the potential market for
specialty stores. (5.9% growth) (NEDA)

● With TRAIN law, consumer enjoyed higher take-home pay.

● Store-based retailing is set to remain the dominant channel in the Philippines but at the same
time will need to evolve. (euromonitor)

● Retailers will slowly meet consumers demands for more seamless, convenient and connected
shopping experience.

● The researchers are conducting the study to improve the existing internal
process of the company in securing spaces.
● The researchers will first determine and study the existing practice of the company. It will be
thoroughly evaluated and check possible pain points needed for improvements.

● The study aims to tackle and improve the following:

● Expedite internal process in securing spaces for Daiso Japan.
● Resolve bottleneck issues that causes delays.
● Emphasize accountability for each process.
● Open more stores.
● Improve internal coordination and communication

Focal Issue

The main focal issue of this action research is to improve the process in securing a proposed area for
Daiso Japan. This process when improve will be a good competitive advantage for the company against
their competitors. Given the strong competition and uprising market of specialty stores in the country.
Expansion of physical stores and getting the most feasible spaces will be a rat race. As per actual
experienced, the fastest tenant to close the deal will secure the space. Lessor’s usually prioritize brands
that will fit in with their tenant mix. But they also wanted to lease out spaces as soon as they can.
Focal Issue:

Process improvement through a development of a central system to standardize all business

development initiatives.

Objectives:

 The Business Development Team will

o produce and utilize a standardized business development process;
o eliminate and reduce inconsistent, time-consuming, and inefficient steps and
procedures; and
o Increase productivity, timeliness, and effectiveness of the Business Development Team.

Desired Future:

 The company will benefit from the achievement of objectives by:

o Opening desired target number of profitable stores in strategic locations;
o Utilizing a standardized business development process that is effective, efficient, and
SMART;
o Improve engagement, relationship, and image of the company with its various
stakeholders that include customers, partners, lessors, suppliers, etc.; and
o Increase productivity, reinforce accountability, and strengthen morale of employees.

Significance:

 The standardization and improvement of business development process is significant to the

researcher/s as it will:
o Improve leadership skills;
o Encourage critical and innovative thinking;
o Reinforce teamwork, cooperation, and synergy; and
o Emphasize employee concern and contribution to the well-being of the company.
