General Information
1. Where is this school located? How long would it take you to get there from Garnet Valley? How do
you feel about this distance?
- Shippensburg University is located in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. It takes about 2 and a half hours to
get there from Garnet Valley. I think this is a reasonable distance, not too far and not too close.
2. How many undergraduate students attend this school? How many graduate students?
- There are about 6,017 undergraduate students that attend this school and about 1,031 graduate students.
3. List three sports, clubs, and/or organizations that the school offers that interest you. Consider Greek
life (fraternities/ sororities), campus ministry, study abroad opportunities, community service
organizations, etc.
- One activity I might be interested in is intramural basketball. I have always enjoyed playing basketball
in my free time and on teams and I think this would be a good way to meet new people and have fun.
- Another activity I might be interested in is joining a sorority. My cousin is in a sorority and my brother
is in a fraternity so it’s something a little familiar with. I think it could be an awesome way to meet new
people and a cool experience.
- The last activity I might be interested in is Catholic Campus Ministry. This interests me because I’ve
always enjoyed learning more about my faith and having fun with friends, so this organization seems
like the perfect fit.
- Internship opportunities at Shippensburg include family businesses, franchises, small businesses, and
corporations where there is a need for entrepreneurial-minded individuals. Internships often turn into job
offers, according to post-graduate surveys of Ship business students.
5. What is the campus setting (urban, suburban, rural, etc.)? What kinds of off-campus experiences are
available to students at this school?
- Shippensburg’s campus setting is rural. There are many things to do off campus including a performance
arts center, museums, and many trails and parks to hike.
6. What are three majors that this school offers that you would like to consider?
- 3 majors I would consider for this school is management, finance, and social work. I plan on doing
something in the business field but after doing the career research project, social work seems to fit me
too.

8. When is the application deadline?
- The average SAT requirements for Shippensburg is a 1050. I think this is a very easy SAT score for me
to be able to achieve. The average ACT requirement is a 20. I have not taken the ACT so I’m not sure if
this would be in my range or not.
11. What are the GPA/Class Rank requirements for this school?
- The average GPA at Salisbury University is 3.2. With a GPA of 3.2, Shippensburg University allows
you to be just average in your high school class. You'll need a mix of A's and B's, B’s being acceptable
and more average.
12. What other admissions requirements are there? SAT 2, letters of recommendation, personal
statement, interview, audition, etc.?
- Shippensburg does not require the essay as part of your admission. Recommendations are recommended
but not a requirement either. There is also no interview or audition to get in. Lastly, you are required to
take 4 years of english, social studies and math, at least 3 years of science, and at least 2 years of a
foreign language.
13. Is this school “Safety” “Reach” or “Middle of the Road” for you?
- I would say this school is a safety school for me. The acceptance rate is pretty high and the average GPA
and SATs are in my range.
- The Health Center is called Etter Health Center and is located in the Wellness Center. The hours for it
are Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm and Saturdays, 12:30pm-4pm. The Counseling Center is also located in
the Health Center. Their hours in the fall and spring semesters are 8:30am-5pm, Monday-Friday and
their summer hours are 8:30am-4pm, Monday-Friday. To create appointments you can call or a walk-in
if necessary and someone is available.
15. What are the hours for the Writing Center? Do you need an appointment or can you just drop in?
- The Writing Center is located on the first floor of Mowrey Hall. The hours for the writing center are
Monday-Thursday 10am-9pm, Friday 10am-4pm, Saturday’s closed, and Sunday’s 5pm-9pm. To make
an appointment you can visit an online website.
16. What academic supports/curricular accommodations can students with special learning needs
receive?
- Many resources are available to students with special learning needs. Some of these resources include
enlarged printing, extended time for tests, alternate testing sites, note-taking services, textbooks in
alternate format, reader/scribe/laptop for exams, priority scheduling, and notification of faculty.
