2020 Local Research Congress (The Torch Bearers Club) : March 11, 2020
1. All Grade 12 SHS students enrolled in GRADE 12 STEM students taking up Capstone Research
for the Second Semester of SY 2019-2020 are required to join the culminating activity.
2. The themes and thrusts of suggested scientific research topics will include: a.) Applied Research
and b.) Basic Research.
3. This activity, as required in lesson code CS_RS12-IIh-j-4 and STEM_RP12IIf-j -13, aim to
enable the student-researchers experience reporting, sharing and presenting written research
outputs for critiquing purposes.
4. The Research Paper format will be comprised of: a.) Project Title, b.) Project Summary-250
words); c.) Project Description - 1000 words including rationale, objectives, study design and
methodology); d.) Data Management and Analysis -100 words; e.) Ethical Considerations- 300
words; f.) Expected outcomes of the study-100 words and g.) References. APA Format will be
used (Please see attached format.
5. Pre-registration will be on March 9, 2020 – 2nd Floor, Grade 12 – Research LRC from 7:30 a.m.
to 3:00 p.m. only.
6. A screening and validation committee will be assigned to pre-evaluate the presenters in the
morning. Top seven (7) finalists from each strand will be announced before the Final Round of
the congress proper in the afternoon.
7. Entries must not exceed 50 pages with an Abstract written in not more than 250 words.
8. The criteria for paper presentation are provided below for the student-researchers’ reference.
9. There shall be three Special Awards winners for each category: a.) Best Research Paper; b.) Best
Paper Presenter, c.) Best Capstone Research Project, d.) Best Poster Display, e.) Best Video
Presentation and Top five (5) winners for overall competition.
10. The researchers will present their research papers using 10-slide PPT presentation, with a 7-liner
at font 28 Times New Roman text. Results may be presented in graphical or tabular form.
11. Experimental and statistical results must be validated by scientists from respective authorities and
SHS Statistician.
12. The decision of the board of judges is final and irrevocable.
