The Church :

In common :

A place where everyone can go pray and listen to the Bible. There have no discrimination . Everyone is
equal. It is the representative of God, a place that brings peace and blessing for people .

In story : “St. Peter's, Neville Square, was a church much favoured by the fashionable for these
ceremonies.”: Sybolism for Upper society.

But the church was not peace since the new vicar has recently appointed, a red face of his represent
for his character, hot temper. He wants to have his finger in every pie. Edward has to be tolerant him a
lot.

“At a church like St. Peter's Neville Square, we cannot have a verger who can neither read nor write” .
The church here has discrimination.

The gowns: -The Verger’s loyalty to God.

- His duty, devotion and pride. “- He wore it with complacence for it was the dignified
symbol of his office, and with”out it he had the disconcerting sensation of being somewhat insufficiently
clad ( the gown is great Pride in work)

A handsome refectory table :

One side is Albert Edward who don’t know how to write and read , the another side is 3 people who
know how to write and read. Here we can see a social discrimination.

The streets/ the roads

In common: Every road has a unique journey. The road is a journey of life. you can choose the road you
go as your decision of your life.

In the story: He didn’t take the street that led his home. He continued going another way and thought
about the past and the future. In his bad lucks, He found a good idea in his roads. The road is the
transition from the past ( he thought a lot of things about his past in paragraph “ But….”) and his future
“ become a successful businessmen)

Cigarettes symbolize change and new beginning : thank to cigrarettes , he find the way to change his
life. It is an opportunity.
