EXT. A SMALL HOUSE IN A QUIET SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD,

MORNING, CLOUDY

CUT TO:

EXT. FRONT PORCH

ARTHUR JAMESON(79) is sitting on a swinging bench, his old

labrador retriever BEA lay lazily on the floor between him
and a small table with a large mug of coffee. He reaches for
the mug and takes a sip.

ARTHUR
Well Bea, you poor old dog, I think
this is it for us. The end of the
line.

Bea groans tiredly at this, though not really understanding

what he said. Arthur sets down his mug.

ARTHUR
Yea, I know. I'll miss her too.

CUT TO:

ON BEA

Bea lifts her head as the CAMERA PANS to look over at

JOHN(around 60), a short stocky mailman, who is walking down
the sidewalk towards Arthur's house. Arthur stands up and
slowly struggles down the stairs. John stops at the short
picket-fence gate.

JOHN
How're ya doin' today, Art?

ARTHUR
Well somehow, I'm doin'.

ARTHUR starts toward the gate.

TRACK SHOT TO GATE

ARTHUR
Alright, watcha got for me John?

JOHN
Well, I hate to do this to ya Art,
but this can't stay at the post
office.

John hands Arthur a letter addressed to Mary Jameson.

ARTHUR
(gloomily)
She said this'd be coming, 'course
she had no idea. She told me about
it yesterday; said she felt
terrible.

JOHN
(apologetically)
Listen Arthur I'm sorry, I can take
it if you want I jus-

ARTHUR
(reassuring)
Its no problem. I'll keep it. Thank
you.

JOHN
She was a lovely woman. And thats no
word you just throw around. I mean
it.

ARTHUR
Thank you, John. You have a good
one.

Arthur turned to walk back to the house and John resumed his
route.

INT. ARTHUR'S LIVING ROOM

The natural light fills the room. We hear the front door
close and a moment later Bea trots in and Arthur walks to
his recliner, carefully holding the letter in both hands. He
slowly sits down and stares at the letter.

INT. ARTHUR'S LIVING ROOM

Arthur begins to cry softly; Bea puts her head on his knee
and he takes one hand off of the letter to put it on her
head and pets her slowly.

JUMP CUT TO:

INT.FOYER OF A CROWDED FUNERAL HOME, NOON

People are shuffling outside, talking softly amongst
themselves. When the majority have gone, MABLE(around
Arthur's age) turns from the crowd to Arthur who is sitting
at an empty table.

CUT TO:

THE TABLE

Arthur looks up at Mable, eyes bloodshot from tears, and

smiles.

ARTHUR
You don't have to comfort me,
Mable, I'll be alright.

Mable quietly pulls out a chair and sits down.

MABLE
Arthur, before she left us, I
wanted to do something for your
anniversary. I had it done a while
ago and its supposed to be
delivered at your house next week.

BACK TO:

INT. ARTHUR'S LIVING ROOM

Arthur begins to carefully tear the letter open. He pulls

out a photograph of two pairs of hands interlocked with
eachother; two of the hands are wearing a wedding ring.

OVER THE SHOULDER CENTERED ON THE PHOTOGRAPH

Remember '59?
