Well Bea, you poor old dog, I think
this is it for us. The end of the
line.
ARTHUR
Yea, I know. I'll miss her too.
CUT TO:
ON BEA
JOHN
How're ya doin' today, Art?
ARTHUR
Well somehow, I'm doin'.
ARTHUR
Alright, watcha got for me John?
JOHN
Well, I hate to do this to ya Art,
but this can't stay at the post
office.
CUT TO:
OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT OF LETTER
ARTHUR
(gloomily)
She said this'd be coming, 'course
she had no idea. She told me about
it yesterday; said she felt
terrible.
JOHN
(apologetically)
Listen Arthur I'm sorry, I can take
it if you want I jus-
ARTHUR
(reassuring)
Its no problem. I'll keep it. Thank
you.
JOHN
She was a lovely woman.And thats no
word you just throw around. I mean
it.
ARTHUR
Thank you, John. You have a good
one.
Arthur turned to walk back to the house and John resumed his
route.
CUT TO:
The natural light fills the room. We hear the front door
close and a moment later Bea trots in and Arthur walks to
his recliner, carefully holding the letter in both hands. He
slowly sits down and stares at the letter.
CUT TO:
BACK TO:
Arthur begins to cry softly; Bea puts her head on his knee
and he takes one hand off of the letter to put it on her
head and pets her slowly.
CUT TO:
THE TABLE
ARTHUR
You don't have to comfort me,
Mable, I'll be alright.
MABLE
Arthur, before she left us, I
wanted to do something for your
anniversary. I had it done a while
ago and its supposed to be
delivered at your house next week.
