1) SCOPE

This procedure covers the minimum requirement of leakage testing of storage


tank ,DNO IRAQ AS project No.:1079

2) REFERENCES
2.1) API 650.
3) GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
3.1) Company shall be notified about any deviation from specification and related
standards.
3.2) Fabrication and welding shall be completed prior to system testing.
3.3) Welding clean up, non-destructive examination, shall be completed before
leakage testing is performed.
3.3.1) Leakage testing shall be performed after cleaning of storage tank. The
storage tanks shall thoroughly cleaned and free from dirt, debris, loses, and slag,
pieces of metal, weld spatter, oil and grease.
3.3.2) Leakage testing shall be performed after any cold and hot forming.

3.4) Leakage testing shall be performed by qualified personnel of executor who


are thoroughly with all equipment.

3.5) Leakage testing shall be performed in presence of company inspector.

4) GENERAL

4.1) The area shall be continuously monitored by test personnel while testing in
being performed so that any change in test procedures or conditions will be
noted immediately and corrective action taken as required.

4.2) Storage tank will be tested in Horizontal position.

5) TEST MEDIUM

Testing medium shall be clean, fresh water.

6) PRESSURE TEST

To perform a leak test, the tank should be completely filled with pure water and
left to remain full of water for 24 hours. During this time, observation and
inspection should be done. If there is any discrepancy between drawing
requirements and this procedure, the drawing requirements shall govern.

7) TEST DURATION

The test shall be maintained for an adequate time (24 hours) to detect small
and slow seepage leaks and to permit a thorough inspection.

8) TEST PREPARATION

8.1) At first, make sure the outside surface is completely dry. For this propose,
the storage tank shall be protected against rainy weather. In case of dew, test
shall be carried out after temperature balance between test fluid and vessel wall.

8.1.1) For leakage testing, all supports shall be in position and completed before
testing.

8.1.2) All lines shall be cleared of debris by flushing with water or blowing with
steam or air.

8.1.3) The executor of test shall consider temporary gasket when making
connections that will be broken for testing or reassembly after testing.

8.1.4) Prior to commencement of the test a through check shall be made to


ensure all fitting, flange, plugs, etc., are in place. All flanges and flanged
fitting shall be bolted and bolts properly torqued.

8.1.5) Mounted instrumentation shall be isolated from the system.

8.2) The storage tank shall be tested in the preliminary of the inspection
agency, before being painting.

8.2.1) Service bolting shall be used for nozzles and manholes.

8.2.2) Gaskets shall be of the service type, dry or coated with


graphite. Use of compounds, glue, lead, is not permitted. Damaged
gaskets shall be replaced.

9) PERFORMANCE

9.1) During filling the storage tank, the interior air shall be completely vent.
Then all shall be sealed.

9.2) The temperature of storage tank wall and testing water shall be controlled
during test.
9.3) The test conditions shall not be applied until the component and its
contents are at about same temperature.
9.4) Leakage test pressure shall normally be maintained for 24 hour.
9.5) After leakage testing is completed and approved by the inspector, the
system shall be dried.
9.6) No leakage or sweating of water from all welding joint and connections
during the leakage test shall be permitted.
9.7) System shall be dried thoroughly, immediately after draining. The drying
process may be accomplished by blowing compressed Air through the system or
by another method approved by the inspector.
9.8) All deposits including rust, mud sand etc shall be removed from inside of the
vessel.
9.9) All temporary blinds shall be removed after leakage test.
9.10) After any repair, storage tank shall be tested according to
approved leakage test procedure.

10) ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

No leakage should occur during test.
