Goal: This Unit focuses on Agriculture within a Caribbean context. Students will be able to understand the concepts, types and role of agriculture in the Caribbean as well as
the environmental impacts of and threats associated the practice. Students will gain knowledge of environmentally sustainable practices applicable to the Caribbean region
and as a result gain a greater appreciation for sustainable methods of ensuring food security on a national, regional and global scale.

At the end of this unit, students will be able to:

- Explain the features of sustainable agriculture


- Discuss the threats to sustainable agriculture
- Evaluate environmentally sustainable practices in agricultural systems
- Appreciate the need for sustainable agriculture
- Design an environmentally sustainable system

Rationale:
Sustainable agriculture seeks to sustain farmers, resources and communities by promoting farming practices and methods that are profitable, environmentally sound and good
for communities. To understand what defines an agriculture practice as sustainable requires knowledge of the characteristics of sustainable agriculture as well as how they can
be successful in light of threats. The unit is structured in such a way to achieve this and directly follows the topics of concepts, types and role of agriculture in the Caribbean.
