Kellogg´s small review

More than 100 years ago, W.K. Kellogg founded The Kellogg Company, doing
business as Kellogg's, is an American multinational food manufacturing company
headquartered in Battle Creek, Michigan, United States. Kellogg's produces cereal and
convenience foods, including crackers and toaster pastries and markets their products by
several well-known brands. Kellogg's mission statement is "Nourishing families so they
can flourish and thrive.

Kellogg's products are manufactured and marketed in over 180 countries. Kellogg
Company is committed to establishing and growing relationships with small and diverse
businesses. These small and diverse businesses include Minority, Woman, LGBT owner
businesses, and many others.

Implementation of the Kaizen method

The company Kellogg's applied the kaizen method due to the


drop in sales of one of its products such as Kellog's Special K,
showing the losses for years they decided to relaunch their
products giving themselves an improvement in their recipe.
This consequently brought them serious delays, so they decided to implement the kaizen
method to eliminate the main cause of the problem. Several goals were set, one of them
was to work as a team thinking together and seeing solutions to problems presented,
once achieved, the changes were seen with the increase in sales.

Results obtained by the company

The first week applying Kaizen method, daily production objectives were achieved only
on two days. In the second week, production objectives were achieved every day.
Workers of different areas reunited to adjust and improve everything related about
production and making it sustainable.

This new product was brought to market on time,


filling the shelves of all the stores that already had the previous product with the new
one so that it was never empty during the change. Besides of accomplishing production
goals, sales increased 30%, staying like this for a year. Querétaro´s factory was working
so well that they were commissioned not only to produce for Mexico, but also for Latin
America. Special K, is still between the five principle brands in Mexico.

K-Lean system helped as an inspiration and encouragement to all factory workers.


Innovative kaizen results spoke for themselves and workers realized how important and
beneficial the k-lean philosophy was. They started to understand it as an easier way to
work instead of thinking it was an additional work. Also they felt cheered up to adopt
the values of the company, known as K-Values. K-Values project is the biggest
initiative of Kellogg´s, helping not only to professional lives of the workers but also to
their private lives.
The company recognizes
individuals and teams that
have proved their ability to
live up to these values. In
relation to this, the Querétaro
team won the local
candidature for this kaizen
exercise. The group continued with a national nomination and finally, they received the
prize worldwide.
