 Preface
The purpose of this report is to explain what I learnt during my internship period
in EXPRESS Newspaper. My tenure of internship was a great source of
inspiration for me. My report focuses primarily on working environment,
successes and observations that I noticed during my internship. I gained
experience and confidence of handling different tasks during this period.
It was a great opportunity for me to work in one of the best institution, and most
credible newspaper.

to me that my breath, to one who are ascribe the traits of absolute perfection and

Firstly I am highly thankful to Head of Department Dr. Anjum Zia who provide
us opportunity to learn and experience professional life in University.
My gratitude extends to more people that can be identified in this space. I am
heartedly and gratefully thanking Mam Fauzia imram, head of the Department
of Mass Communication, Lahore college for Women University for their
cooperation and my supervisor Mam Mehwish for the advice he gave me and
teaching me the knowledge and the process needed to become successful in my
newspaper internship experience.
The sacred personalities for me are my beloved and respected Parents; I could
not be able to achieve such a level of experience without their oral and logistic
support. Their great level of encouragement and guidance made me capable to
complete this work. I am thankful for their great love, care, moral and financial

 Introduction
Daily express was founded on 3rd September ,1998. It is Pakistan’s one of the
most circulated Urdu language newspaper published by century publications a
Lakson group subsidiary. It is published simultaneously from Islamabad, Karachi,
Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sargodha,
Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan and Sukkar. It claims to have a 24% circulation
share.
Believing in the philosophy of unbiased reporting in an ethical and responsible
manner, EXPRESS News over the years has been bringing authentic news and
neutral current affairs commentary with no political affiliation/s or hidden agenda.
Among some of the biggest names in journalism along with a techno logically
advanced infrastructure.

Over the years, Express Newspaper has created professional standards and built
institutions necessary to the growth of a free national press and therefore has
emerged as the most authoritative newspaper respected for its uncompromising,
accuracy and impartial track record.
Express’s responsible, accurate and prompt reporting has made it the voice of
Pakistani people and has earned it tremendous recognition and numerous national
and international awards of the highest integrity to add to its remarkable
credibility as a responsible media entity. EXPRESS endeavors to continue
bringing wider, smarter, unbiased news and independent reviews through its
largely appreciated news and programs to its viewers.

 Objectives of organization

The basic objective of news dissemination is to ensure that the people know what
is happening and understand the possible causes so they can form their own
opinions and arrive at their own conclusions. The most valuable asset of a
journalist therefore remains public respect, which must first be earned and then
maintained through adherence to the highest possible standards of professional
integrity.

This is why, if the journalistic community is to play its due role in Pakistan, it
must submit its own behavior to the most rigorous scrutiny. Codification of our
ethics is therefore imperative.

Express News has always strived to discharge its duties and to encourage its staff
members to discharge their responsibilities in line with the ideals of journalistic
ethics and principles.

Following are the objectives which Express News follows:

1) Always act in the best interest of people which are defined as:
(i) Detecting or exposing crime or a serious misdemeanor.
(ii) Protecting public health and safety.
(iii) Preventing the public from being misled by some statement or
action of an individual or organization.
2) Maintaining the public trust
Journalists strive to keep the public’s trust, because it is on the foundation of
trust that information is collected and exchanged. The public must trust
journalists to provide accurate and valuable information, or the journalists’
works will be neither sought out nor believed. Sources of information must
trust journalists to protect their identity, where applicable, and not to
misrepresent them or their views. This be an ethical value, but it is also a
pragmatic one: a media outlet cannot do business if it cannot obtain sources or
be believed by the public.
3) To promote for the public benefit high ethical standards in journalism,
based on principles of truth and accuracy, independence, fairness and

impartiality, humanity and accountability by the provision of education
and training of journalists and the publication of useful research.
