Official environmental club of Dole Philippines School

Coastal Clean-up Project proposal

Tentative date: August __, 2018

Standards: Clean the specified beaches found in General Santos City in relating to the club’s main objective.

Learning Goals:

 The members and picked students will make a contribution to the reducing of trash by cleaning
its end source, the sea.
 The members and picked students will know the importance of a clean environment by making
an action to help lessen the improper throwing of trash by the sea.
 The members and picked students will connect both ideal, clean environment and the real
world through reflections and realizations by the activity. They will demonstrate the
connections through club conversations and conclusions.

Rationale:

Every year thousands of tons of garbage winds up in the oceans, with 60% of that being composed of
plastic material. Plastics especially last a very long time in the ocean, and are in such abundance that there are
46,000 individual pieces of plastic litter for every square mile of ocean. Plastics are very hazardous to marine
life, killing more than a million birds and over 100,000 seals, turtles, and whales, and an immense number of
fish in our ocean. (Days of the year, 2018)

With the continuous deterioration of environment due to insurmountable volume of garbage has
brought enough challenge to policy makers, locally and internationally. They have come up with different
resolutions and procedures to somehow lighten this problem.

Despite these efforts, there are still problems that are unsolved and uncontrolled. The presence of
garbage of assorted composition in coastal areas is an indicator that the campaign on garbage management
has not yet been fully successful.
The official environmental club of Dole Philippines School, the Ecofilites, has held itself responsible and
involved in the campaign for proper waste management and coastal environment preservation. It will initiate
a school-community project through a coastal clean-up that aims to preserve the conditions of the waters of
specific coastal areas found in General Santos City by cleaning the surrounding areas of the said place.

This project will be coordinated with the barangay officials of Barangay ________ of General Santos
city and the Rotary Club of Polomolok 101. The official members and picked students will serve as volunteers.
According to Andrew and Bradley (2010) that volunteer service probabilities exist to meet almost any person’s
skill set and time schedule.

The volunteers can play a significant role in the social transformation and uplift the marginalized
members of the society and their exposure in visiting the communities in order to feel the situation, be
oriented on the lifestyle and know the concerns and problems to improve the conditions of the beneficiaries
(Jimenez, 2008).
