You can see the river Thames. Tower Bridge is the first bridge on the right.
The Tower of London is next to Tower Bridge.
On the map, Buckingham Palace is under Green Park. When the Queen is there, her flag
is on the roof.
On the map, the Houses of Parliament are behind Westminster Abbey.
On the map, Westminster Abbey is next to the river Thames.

3. Read!
Colour the river blue, Tower Bridge brown and blue, the Tower of London brown
and white.

Colour the Double-Decker (the bus) red, Buckingham Palace brown, the Houses
of Parliament yellow, Westminster Abbey pink.

8 8. A little history.

Look at the map at the beginning of the lesson.


In the 1870s, London was very busy.
1/3 of the population lived in the East and South East of London and they had only one
bridge to cross the river Thames: it was London Bridge.
Tower Bridge was built in 1886. Horace Jones, the architect, designed a bridge that opened
in the middle so that the passage of ships was possible.
A walkway was added for pedestrians to walk across the bridge.
