Problem Statement

Nowadays, the price of construction materials keeps increasing following the increment of
current living cost such as cement, sand and steel. For any type of building project like
hospital, residential, industrial and others, there is a compulsory material such as steel. Steel
is a building material which is used for construction purposes. The initial economic cost of
building materials is the purchase price. Sometimes people take into consideration the energy
savings or durability of the materials and see the value of paying a higher initial cost in return
for a lower lifetime cost. The rise in the price of this item is due to the high demand for
building as the country of Malaysia is growing rapidly. This research is about to analyse the
rate of change of the steel for 3 months back. We choose 12.0mm type of steel every 1meter
price. Table 1 shows the monthly analysis of the price of the 12.0mm steel every 1meter. All
price is from Perniagaan Yeelon Hardware Parit Raja, Johor.

For the fuel price is set to be revised weekly. There are two types of fuel which is RON 97
green in colour while RON 95 yellow in colour. Usually RON 95 gets consumer demand
because the price is cheaper than RON 97. If it is to be associated with steel and oil, this can
be taken into account as the delivery of goods to a place by using heavy vehicles using fuel
and will further increase the price of steel goods where the price is mixed with the shipping
price. This research is about to analyse the rate of change of fuel RON 97 for month of
September every week.
