NTPC Returns Snare Falls Hydro Unit to Service

HAY RIVER, NWT (May 29, 2020) – The Northwest Territories Power Corporation
(NTPC) announced today that the Snare Falls Hydro Unit has returned to service. The
unit was shut down on May 4 following the discovery of an oil sheen near the facility.

The source of the leak from the hydro plant was located and repaired, the unit has been
successfully tested and the unit is now considered back to fully functional.

Total costs of the shutdown and repairs are unknown at this time. The cost of diesel
generation during the shutdown were lower than originally estimated, with daily diesel
replacement costs averaging approximately $10,000. No diesel generation was required
on weekends to support demand load.

NTPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of NT Hydro, which in turn is 100 percent owned by
the Government of the Northwest Territories.
