2020-03-12 Hint for solution to #4 problem of HW#1

1. Finish the graph with the  t   t curve as follows

Fig. 1 Graph with the  t   t curve

2. Prepare a rectangular template ABCD s shown in Fig. 2, in which a line segment AE with length
of 1.0 is marked.
3. Gradually move the template ABCD toward to Fig. 1 as schematically shown in Fig. 3, such that
the vertical line of AD intersects with the  t   t curve in Fig. 1, say, at points P1, P2 and P3,
respectively, in Fig. 3.
4. At these three intersection points P1, P2 and P3 in Fig. 3, three tangential lines P1R1, P2R2 and P3R3
are drawn, respectively, where the points of R1, R2 and R3 are three intersection points between
three tangential lines and the horizontal  t axis.

5. Measure the distances of horizontal line segments of R1Q1, R2Q2 and R3Q3, in which only the
distance of line segment R2Q2 is equal to 1.0 as shown in the distance of AE in Fig. 2. Therefore,
the distance of line segment P1Q1 is the value of  t max
