Make a small Ganapati with turmeric paste in the form of a four sided pyramid and place Him
on a betel leaf. Each tarpana is performed with an udrini (spoon) full of sugandha jala (scented
water). The water should flow between the ring finger and the middle finger of the right hand
onto this Ganapati.
Initially, 12 tarpanas are performed with mulamantra in the following manner – ‘mulamantram
tarpayami namah’ where the mulamantra is as given above.
Then, for each bijakshara or letter in the mulamantra, we perform tarpana 4 times – ‘bijakshara
swaha tarpayami namah’ followed by ‘mulamantram tarpayami namah’. e.g. ōm̐ svāhā
tarpayāmi namaḥ - ’mūlamantram’ tarpayāmi namaḥ |
Then, tarpana of Mithunas is performed. For each of the following Mithuna devatas, tarpana is
offered 4 times chanting ‘Mithuna devata tarpayami namah’ followed by ‘mulamantram
tarpayami namah’. e.g. śrīṁ tarpayāmi namaḥ - ’mūlamantram’ tarpayāmi namaḥ |
