NARRATIVE EVALUATION AND REFLECTION

Please kindly take a moment and read my sincere reflection and analysis to this kind of learning

using a common yet relevant strategy, the SWOT Analysis.

STRENGTHS

● I learned how to blend online and traditional classes to fill out a schedule when they work part-

time or have other life demands.

● This limits the need to travel, which also means time and cost savings. However, the cost of

internet connection became exceedingly high.

● Students, like me, who could easily get distracted by the sounds and interaction of a regular

classroom can set aside quiet space for study at home.

WEAKNESSES

● I've realized that while online students often engage peers in online discussions and interact

with professors via Facebook messenger and e-mail, this doesn't replicate the face-to-face

experiences in a traditional classroom.

● It's a worry to those who have a significant issue in rural and lower socioeconomic

neighborhoods. While others can comply, they are waiting for their parents to supply their needs

and fuel their mobile data.

● Some professors do timed online examinations even though there are no online discussions
happened. Time pressure is present. Low internet connection is also present. In my opinion, this

instance substantiates that we are probably not learning, we're just complying in order to pass.

● It’s also a weakness to us, in the first place, the finding of coping mechanisms for this kind of

learning. But now I’m eventually getting used to it.

OPPORTUNITIES

● I think the major opportunity is that when we are distanced from our traditional classrooms, we

are closer to our family.

● Flexible schedule is also one. Studying online gives me more flexibility, that is, I can cope up

with cramming.

THREATS

● There is a big threat to my visual health or eyesight. My eyes easily get tired for we are driven

by electronics - laptops, mobile phones, among others. My parents are planning to get me a pair

of glasses because my temporal aches frequently.

● I and my friends don't think whether we are really earning knowledge out of this flexible

distance learning or we are doing this just for compliance. We don't know.

● Some students have limited access to and are incapable of affording internet connection. If

they do not possess these technology tools, they will not succeed in an online program. However,

it's a relief that some professors give consideration to these students.

● There is also a massive threat to my family's financial capabilities. My parents' jobs require

labor. That is to say, there is no such this as work-from-home. Thankfully, local governments

and thoughtful relatives never forget to help us in this trying time. However, we are not secured
about the days ahead of us and are still finding ways to cope up with this struggle.

ANALYSIS

● Weaknesses are over the strengths which means that online students are more likely to be in a

worrisome problem.

● Threats are much more than the opportunities. Therefore, this online distance learning is too

risky.

REFLECTION

Online classes and distance learning save time, and saving time is important to me. The travel

time alone is time enough for me to comply with my activities. It would take me thirty to forty-

five minutes to travel to MSEUF Lucena from Sariaya. For example, if I spend one to three hour

a day working on my assignments, that means that I still have extra hours of free time each day;

time that I would normally have to spend commuting to and from school. However, weaknesses

are still there. Please refer to the weaknesses above.

REALIZATION

I've learned that to be a better online distance learner, you have to be self-disciplined and able to

work well on your own pace. Since you won't be physically going to class each day, you can take

part in class from the comfort of your own home. You must be self-disciplined because

professors won’t constantly be there to remind you of assignments or of project deadlines. As a

result, I became more organized. I make and comply with my to-do lists and check the ones I’ve
completed. Moreover, one of the main objectives of college is to become a well-rounded

individual, with the skills needed to successfully manage a busy agenda in the days ahead of us.
