TECHNICAL ALERT Jere Saudi Aramco CONSULTING SERVICES DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: CHANGE IN WELDING ALERT NO: DATE: 003/04 5/24/2004 SUMMARY FILLER MATERIAL DESIGNATION FOR 5 AND 9 CHROME The AWS and ASME have changed the welding filler material designation for 5% and 9% chrome consumables. This applies to the specifications related to bare wire and covered electrodes. They have moved these consumables from the specifications of Stainless Steels and placed them in the specifications of Low-Alloy Steels. They have also changed the classification identification. The purpose of this Technical Alert is to prevent the use of incorrect material. The following charts provide across reference for the old and new designations. The consumables may be used interchangeably for each Nominal Composition. All new welding procedures must have the ew designation histed.
