Request For Proposal (RFP) : TH ST
Project Timeline:
Work would commence around September 15th, 2007, and we are requesting a completion date on or
before October 31st, 2007.
Project Description:
We are looking for a developer to design and build an online event listing directory that incorporates
reviews, enhanced search features, and mapping to Google Maps. Please be aware that this RFP is not
a full specification, but should provide enough details to demonstrate the requested end product.
Project Components:
The site will incorporate numerous features:
General Design: All page layouts, logos, and graphics will be provided in Adobe Photoshop and/or
JPEG format; website structure and linkages will be outlined in Microsoft Visio.
Directory: Event listings with thumbnail picture, where user can click on event to take them to a
detailed page listing the name, description, date, time, website link, e-mail address, and location
(city/state and coordinates) of event; also shows date of posting.
Photos: User can attach a photo or album of photos (up to 10 photos) to each event listing
Security: User registration/profile and e-mail authentication features
Event Search: Enhanced “sort” and “search” features, including event search by geographical
location (coordinates or radius-based search)
Google Maps/Earth: A “map it” feature that takes user to Google Map of selected area with icons of
nearby events (all events are to be geocoded by user at time of upload); we will provide a Google
Earth layer.
Event Uploading: The ability to upload menu for users to create event listing, upload pictures or
album of photos; future editing permitted by user. User will also have opportunity to request an
enhanced listing with link to standard shopping cart checkout; enhanced listing will include priority
positioning in directory, featured listing status, longer descriptions, highlighted/larger text, etc.
User Interactions: The ability for users to create groups, add events to favorites, report violations,
rate/comment on an event, and “tell a friend”
E-Mail Services: Integration with internal e-mail system to allow users to request automated
messages on specific categories/locations of upcoming events.
Global Perspective: Parallel websites to accommodate various languages (eg.
www.example.com/francais; www.example.com/italiano; etc.) – translation not required, only page
setup and database interface
Advertisements: Standard-sized banner space for future advertisements, to be displayed based on
selected user characteristics or search requests
Website Administration: The ability to edit, remove, or sort events
Platform Compatibility: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, as well as with RIM and other mobile
devices
The RFP is only for technical experience in building site and underlying database. We are not
experienced programmers, but we have a clear vision of the end product. Suggestions are always
welcome with respect to technical direction. There is also the possible need for future technical support
as the website develops.
Candidate must demonstrate a strong understanding of the English language. A phone interview will be
required prior to work commencing.
