“ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY”

“Air Pollution Problem in Jakarta,Indonesia”

JAKFAR SADIQ – 1906395085
Over the past century, human actions have had an increasingly negative impact on the Earth’s
environment. Through air pollution and deforstation, “what is Air Pollution and Deforstation?”
According WHO defines Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. Car
emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles.
Ozone, a gas, is a major part of air pollution in cities and Deforstation is the removal of a forest
or stand of trees from land which is then converted to a non-forest use, humans have triggered a
change in Earth’s climate that will have negative repercussions for ecosystems in all parts of the
world as well as for humanity. As stewards of God’s Earth, it is our obligation to protect the
environment and make sustainable choices that will preserve the Earth for generations to come.
Air pollution in Jakarta is severely affecting health and affects globally while some people refuse
to admit the condition.

Carbon dioxide is a chemical compound composed of one carbon and two oxygen atoms. It is
often referred to by its formula CO2. It is present in the Earth's atmosphere at a low
concentration and acts as a greenhouse gas. In its solid state, it is called dry ice. It is a major
component of the carbon cycle, over the past 10 years, carbon dioxide levels Jakarta atmosphere
have risen dramatically. The increase in carbon dioxide is directly proportional to the increased
use of fossil fuels as a source of energy. Also, deforestation around the globe has crippled the
Earth’s natural ability to process the excess carbon dioxide, enhancing the greenhouse effect. It is
imperative that humanity reduces its dependence on fossil fuels for energy as well as creating
initiatives to protect natural areas from development. As individuals, every person can make a
difference by choosing sustainable transportation options, conserving electricity, and creating
green space on their property.

There are many individuals that attempt to downplay the issues facing Earth’s environment
though the indicators of change are quite obvious. This is especially true of corporations that
stand to lose profits if pollution regulations are strengthened and the use of fossil fuels phased
out. As the apostle luke stated, “Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a mans life does not
consist in the abundance of his possessions.” Sacrificing natural stability in the name of profits is
an appalling practice that must be curtailed before the damage becomes irreversible. Air
pollution is a problem in all parts of the world especially in Jakarta, In a study on air pollution in
Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Greater Jakarta) in 2017, Greenpeace Indonesia
revealed the air pollution in Greater Jakarta, with its high level of a carcinogenic pollutant called
PM2.5, was three times higher than the maximum “safe” level recommended by the World
Health Organization (WHO) of 25 micrograms per cubic meter . though developing countries are
experienced the most apparent effects. Air is essential to life on this planet and is therefore
should be treated as a precious commodity. Once Air is polluted it it impossible to return it to a
pristine condition, so it is vital that humanity work to protect the global Air supply.

Over the past 10 years, CO2 levels in Jakarta atmosphere have risen exponentially. The increase
in CO2 is directly proportional to the increased use of fossil fuels as a source of energy. Also,
deforestation in all parts of the globe has crippled the Earth’s natural ability to process the excess
CO2 enhancing the greenhouse effect. It is imperative that humanity reduces its dependence on
fossil fuels for energy as well as creating initiatives to protect natural areas from development.
The capital’s streets are packed with hundreds and even thousands of fossil-fuel-generated
private cars and motorcycles, which produce smog-forming emissions. These pollutant sources
do not include the burning of coal and fuel oil from various industries, household trash and
vehicle batteries in small garages. According to Jakarta’s Environment Agency, vehicle
emissions are responsible for as much as 70 percent of the city’s air pollution.

In conclusion, As more data is released regarding the ways humanity has negatively impacted the
environment, adopting the “green” philosophy becomes increasingly important to the
preservation of the planet as we know it. The human race has been given the toools to take
advantage of the abundance of planet Earth but the time has come for humanity to use those tools
in order to safeguard the future environmental solvency of the planet. Psalm 115:16 states, “The
heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the Earth he has given to the sons of men.” God has
given the Earth and all of its benefits to mankind as a gift it would be a tremendous shame if
humanity fails to protect this gift for the generations to come.
