PROJECTILE

LAB
REPORT 1 1 0 2 - 1 1 0 4
INTRODUCTION

In this lab report, we experimented

on projectile motion which is which is
a form of motion when an object that
is thrown up into the air into a curved
path affected by gravity. Th
objective is to observe the change in
trajectory when the angle is
changed. The experiment will be
done three times per angle starting
with 0°, 20°, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 70°
with air pressure at 70 psi.
OBJECTIVE

Your paragraph text

The objective of this experiment is to

study and understand the concept of
projectile motion. We observe the change
of trajectory and range of projectile when
the angle is changed while keeping the
pressure constant. The other objective is
to calculate initial velocity and time the
projectile took to land

SET-UP

As a group of five, we
assigned a task to each
person. One person
shooting a ball, one
recording the position,
one collecting the ball,
one pumping air inside
the cannon and one
person aiming the
cannon.
SET-UP
PROCEDURE
Part A

1 2
Set launcher at 0° Insert metal ball
with 70 psi and use hand pump
pressure. to pressurize

3 4
Measure height of Reload and launch
launching ball ball 3 times per
angle

5 4
Record the distance
and calculate initia
velocity
PROCEDURE
Part B

1
Fire projectile at 20°, 0°, 45°, 60°, and
75°.

2
Record the length and lable spot

Determine the angle of maximum range and

put in data table
DATA &
RESULTS

From the experiment measure how far the

projectiles traveled when launched at
different angles. The following angles are
the angle at which the projectile was
launched at; 0, 20, 30, 45, 60, 70 degrees.
While also applying pressure roughly about
70 psi throughout the experiment.

Calculation for
initial velocity
ANALYSIS A
In part A, The average
distance of the three trial
is 73°. We can calculate
the ball's initial velocity
which uses the y = ½gt².
The formula gave us the
average initial velocity of
422.9 cm/s

ANALYSIS B
In part B, we can see that
45° gives us the maximum
range which is around 203
centimeters and that 20° and
70° gives us the minimum
range of around 130
centimeters. 30°and 60° are
complimentary as well as
20° and 70° That's why it has
similar range. It might be a
little different because of
slight difference in each run.

CONCLUSION

According to the experiment, we can

conclude that ball shot at 45 degrees
go the furthest because it perfectly
splits the upward and forward forces.
A 45 degrees is in the middle while
20 and 70 degrees, 30 and 60
degrees are complementary angle.
The ball shot at 0 degrees went the
shortest because the forces from the
cannon only pushed on x-axis.
RECOMMENDATION

In this experiment, the error that we have to deal with during the
experiment includes leveling the launcher at zero degrees, and
lowering the launcher. Our group was negligent in reading the
instructions, causing us to make two main silly mistakes which
leads to a major problems. The first time that we launched the
objects we totally forgot to leveling the launcher to zero degree,
which have an effect on the results. It was too far off from each
other, soon after that we know that we forgot to leveling the
launcher to zero degrees. Leading us in redoing the whole
process all over again. Everything seems to go well for a moment,
until the very end of the experiment. We realized by looking at the
other group and saw that they are all lowering their launcher to
the chair level. So we asked the teacher, and she told us that all
we did was wrong. Once again that we need to redo the same
experiment all over again for the second time. Which is a waste of
time that shouldn’t be happening if we were to care more about
the instruction that is given in the first place. If possible, we
should pay more attention and spend more time on reading the
instructions, so that these mistakes wouldn’t happen.
