Q.1. A mixing system need to be automated using PLC. In this application pure unmixed
solution can be prepared by the operator using switches S1 and S2. And mixed solution or
material can be prepared by the operator using switch S3. Operator observes the level of
the tank and he can discharge the liquid inside tank by operating valve V5 manually. Also
the agitator motor M will be in running while tank is being filled. You have to provide
interlock system so operator cannot operate both switches at same time. V1, V3 and V5
are manual valves which is not connected to the PLC. V2 and V4 are electronically
operated valves which can be controlled by PLC. (a) make a schematic showing hardwire
circuit among PLC, switches, motor and valves solenoids (b) draw a ladder logic diagram
for the same. [3 + 6 = 9]
Q.2. For the figure given below find out a) voltages at points V0, V1, V2, V3; b) gain of the
operational amplifier for 1010 c) output voltage for switching sequence 1111. Assume
Vs= 15 volts [4 + 1 + 2 = 7]
Q.3. Pump can deliver a max pressure of 135 bar and has flow rate of 0.0016m3/s. Actuator
piston and rod area are 195 and 65 cm2 respectively. Calculate (considering information
provided in figure below) velocity and force carrying capacity when (a) lever L1 is
pressed (b) no lever is pressed (c) lever L2 is pressed. [8]
Q.4. Derive the expression for vout as a function of input voltage and resistors. [5]
Q.5. What are two main advantages of indirect actuation method. With help of neat diagram
show how to implement signal storage with (i) 4/2 double solenoid valve and (ii) 4/3
double solenoid valve for moving a double acting cylinder. [6]
Q.6. With help of schematic show and name five different type of valve centers. [5]
